Family Killed by Lightning in Kampong Thom

Cambodia News (Kampong Thom): On 23 May 2019, at 4:30 pm, a family of 3 people died after getting struck by lightning in Cham Pkar village, Sandan district, Kampong Thom. The victims were identified as Choy Len, 28-year-old man, Chea Sokhorn, 27-year-old woman, and their 3-year-old son, Leng Chenglea.

The victims were growing potatoes on their farm when a heavy rainstorm came up, so they took their son to shelter under a mango tree. Then a bolt of lightning struck all three of them, killing them instantly. RIP.

Cambodia Breaking News (Siem Reap): More deaths by lightning occurred yesterday. On June 6, at 4 pm, two men were killed by lightning in Ahranh village, Siem Reap. The police said the victims were struck by lightning after they took shelter under a tree during a rainstorm.
DO NOT shelter under trees during a lightning storm.

Update: In another incident, three boys aged 8-14 were struck by lightning during a storm in Ratanakkiri while standing outside their school yesterday and two of them died instantly. A woman and a small child were also reportedly injured after a lightning strike in Kratie province.

At least five people have been killed by lightning strikes over three days of storms.
Kampong Cham: There were more victims on the evening of June 3, 2019, when one man died and a boy was badly injured by lightning, as the two were herding in their cattle from the storm in Chum Phoum village,Kampong Cham province.
