Fake Monk Busted Begging Money for Drug Habit

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Siem Reap, Cambodia News: According to sources, on 1 March 2020, authorities cracked down in the village of Trapeang Ses, Siem Reap, after receiving information from local monks at Wat Thmey (Kbal pagoda) that there was a fake monk going around asking local villagers for money for the pagoda. The fake monk was detained and identified as Ou Oun, a 38-year-old male, from Kampong Cham province.
When he was taken for questioning by the Siem Reap police officials, the "monk" broke down and confessed that he was pretending to be a monk and using the donations from the local people to fund his drug habit.
The suspect was sent to Siem Reap provincial court for criminal prosecution.
