They are NOT highly educatedSamouth wrote:i was shocked with the number of Cambodians working illegally in Thailand when the junta government of Thailand sent them back a few months ago. I couldn't believe it could be that many. . @Richard, why do you think working as factory worker can bring them better life. I think it is just surviving. If they are highly educated and working in any companies in Thailand i would say so.
factory job averages over $400/month + housing
Construction pays MIN $300/month+ housing
even 7/11 pays over $300/month
Cambodian's less than $150 in their own country
where would u rather work doing the same job.
VERY few were sent back on the whole
Here in Phuket most low paying jobs ( or what a thai looks at as low paying) are done by Mostly Burmese with a lot of Bangladeshis, Indians, Nepalis, Cambodians and Laotians
Dont believe what u only read

I met many Khmer workers in Thailand. 70% of the workers are Khmer work in a big garden in Thailand. I'm sad to see their homeland is not comfortable and take a risk to work in the second country.

I talked to a few people who have been to work in Thailand. Most of them work in construction sector and they have to pay for housing.phuketrichard wrote:They are NOT highly educatedSamouth wrote:i was shocked with the number of Cambodians working illegally in Thailand when the junta government of Thailand sent them back a few months ago. Re: Everyday Many Cambodians Were Flocking Into Thailand Illegally Seeking For Jobs.
My brother in law worked construction in Thailand last year.
He earned 80000KHR per day, six days a week. He got 10000R a day toward his food and accomodation was covered. He was working there legally, but when he wanted a holiday for two weeks his boss would not release his passport, so he had to travel illegally across the border and then back again to keep his job and had to pay around $100 in bribes to Thai police and Khmer police overall.
Now he has returned and earns $5 a day as a security guard, and has wasted all the money he earned on a girl he met by dialling numbers on his phone, who he got engaged to without meeting. Needless to say she stopped calling once she had all the money from him.
I wouldn't employ this guy. He's an idiot, yet he can earn $600+ a month in Thailand but my sister in law who has a psychology masters and a teaching degree can't earn $200 in Phnom Penh with two jobs.
Go figure.

it is unbelievable, how come a person who has two different degrees plus a master can't earn 200 dollars per month with two jobs. If possible can you tell me what is she doing here in Phnom Penh. For my part time job, I only work 1.5 hours per/day and 5 days/ week, i could earn 120 dollars and sometime more than that if there are more projects. I think you might have to check with her again. This sounds really unrealistic.

Substitute teacher in national schools. Plus she does some work for the Ohknya who paid her scholarship; last night was out drawing blood for testing from KTV workers. She has just graduated, and is rather shy.

Is the Okhna paying her? Or is she working with him to pay back to the okhna by cutting from her salary that's why she doesn't earn much. You meant she just finished her master degree? If so, it makes more sense as people don't really credit the certificate, but working experience, it is good if she tried to do something for one or two years after she finished her bachelor degree and then continue for her master degree.Jerry Atrick wrote:Substitute teacher in national schools.
