Let's say they just hired the taxi for the day and their driver caused the accident. Would they be held liable for the damages to the truck?

I would also prefer an experienced older driver but the next time some asshole is speeding I would just leave the car and take the next one.
Have done it before. Not only is a shit driver annoying and dangerous it is also not the way I want to travel.

I'm sure most of us have at some stage been on long journeys in cars being driven by Khmers, and had to grip the seat and hold our breaths as it moves out into the oncomming lane to overtake and you just hope that the road is wide enough to accomodate not just your car and the car you're overtaking but the 25-ton truck that is coming at you in the opposite direction.

Awful situation. Sympathies to those injured.

The driver would normally be held responsible.

I broadly agree, but if the driver is speedy alone its okay. If he's both a fuckwit and a speeder I'm out.

In the VIP vans I prefer not to be able to see the oncoming traffic.

The one time I got lumped with the front passenger seat, we ran over a street dog at 80km/h. Driver was beeping his horn but the dog wandered right in our path without even looking. There was no chance to stop or avoid it.

The driver has no money. The passengers are white. Wouldn’t they be made to pay?

No unless the car belongs to them.
