Drunk Swiss Expat Caught in Hit & Run with "Girlfriend" on Street 51; Wife Shows Up & Things Get Weird

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Markus Kalberer, the Dean at Academy of Culinary Arts Cambodia, from Waeggis, Switzerland, was caught and beaten by angry locals who saw him run over at least 4 motorbikes and 2 TukTuks in his SUV with his Cambodian girlfriend.

The Swiss national is clearly drunk in the video as he desperately tries for 20 minutes to tell the cameraman that he has no interest in discussing a payment amount for the damage he caused to others property. Unless, of course, it came directly from the police, as he's a law biding citizen and he will handle it no other way but through them.

At first the scene looked like the typical "Drunk Barang Runs Over Others in SUV With His Skanky Bar Girl Girlfriend," but then Markus's wife and daughter showed up.

All parties seemed surprisingly cool with the whole situation, although there were a few sassy exchanges between his Filipina wife and his Cambodian girlfriend while the daughter just stands around watching the whole thing with that "FML" look on her face.

The drunken Markus Kalberer rambled until the police showed up, where his wife did a lot of talking, and at one point they claimed he had ran over 10 TukTuks.

He allegedly ran over the other vehicles on Street 51 near Golden Sorya Mall, but managed to pull off a hit and run for a few minutes and made it all the way to Wat Phnom before rightfully angry locals caught up with him, stopped him and roughed him up a bit.

In the end the police reportedly told him that he needs to pay $300 to the owners of the property he damaged.

Video of the aftermath:

Google Translation:

Phnom Penh: a Swiss director Merkus Kalus (Markus Kalberer) drove car while he was drunk to crush 4 motorbikes and 2 Tuk Tuks at 2:10 am on 30 December 2017 on 51 street near Golden Sorya Mall in Phnom Penh.

Before the incident Merkus Kalus drove SUV car license plate 2B-2776 with a Cambodian give who also drunk on street 51 to crush 4 motorbike and 2 Tuk Tuk which parked alone the street made some damages but no body got any accident. Then the offender tried to drive fast to escape but the police caught him on street 106 at dragon bridge near wat phnom. After that his Philippino wife and his daughter have arrived and got some argument with a drunk nasty Cambodian girl who accompanied with her husband. Then the wife seem doesn’t want to continue the argument then back to talk to the police for Damages payment. The estimated for damages they have to pay 300 usd to end the case.

The video is 25 minutes long, so there is a bit more information in there. Around the 5 minute mark the wife asks why the other girl was in the car and the girlfriend yells that they weren't banging or anything, LoL. And around 10 mins his wife says his full name, although I can't make it out.

$300? That's all? For 4 bikes and 2 tuk tuks?

Really?

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.

Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

Street 51 is 1 way heading south at Golden Sorya mall so this "gentleman" was presumably driving the wrong way if he wound up north of it at wat phnom. I get pissed off enough at drunk Khmer driving the wrong way down the street. A foreigner should neve be allowed to get away with it.Off to Prey Sar till he pays up, which he will not because he is swiss and they are tighter than a ducks arse

Really?

Why wouldn't they lock him and demand thousands like the Sihanoukville cops who catch foreigners with a bit of weed?

Because in Cambodia impaired driving and causing an accident is way less serious than being caught with a joint.
