Drunk, Angry, and Stupid; Man Burns Down Family Home

Siem Reap, Cambodia News: On the morning of January 20, 2019, Mr. Vannarath, prosecutor at the Siem Reap court ordered the arrest of Sinnay, a 31-year-old man living in Ta Sre village, Daun Keo commune, Siem Reap province, on charges of arson and domestic violence against his wife.

At 16:30 on January 19, 2019, the suspect was drunk and became angry with his wife, Keo Lork, 29, for disrespecting him. He is accused of hitting his wife and then burning the house down. The total damage is approximately 5 million riel (about US$1250), and vital documents such as the birth certificate of the child and the mother, and the family book, were lost in the fire.

After questioning by the police, the suspect confessed that he set the house on fire because he was angry with his wife. He was then taken to Siem Reap provincial court where he will be judged for acts of violence and arson.
