Drivers Protest They are Paying for Pass-App Fare War

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I've always used Grab on my trips to Thailand. This last trip I was informed I was stupid for doing so because using the Line app for taxis was much cheaper and quicker with drivers more near and sure enough it was.
Now Grab is squeezing PassApp but soon Line will be squeezing Grab here too.

Anyone using TADA?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... chain.tada

Provides a "fairer service to both drivers and riders."

And is apparently Cambodia's "First Zero-Commission Ride-Hailing Service" https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50563514/a ... g-service/

PassApp takes 15% and Grab closer to 20% I believe.

Unless they take credit card Grab is simply more convenient. You can pre-select tip rates and it will be an exact % so you don't have to count hundreds and thousands losing face in the street. Just add your card, set the tip and ride like a baller.

Grab drivers generally have higher IQ but their customer service is spotty at best. At least they have someone to complain to. Not sure how you can have that with no commission services.

about 1.000r per ride.
It's a percentage. Grab state 20% although this was in the PPP last year:
Grab drivers have complained about high commission rates, nearly 20 per cent for veteran drivers, and more than 28 per cent for new drivers.
passapp has been raised from 13% to 15%. iTsumo (now called Taxi Phumi) claimed they had the lowest commission at 9% (also donated a few hundred riel to Kantha Bopha each ride), that was before TADA.

This man has a point
“I want the company to keep the original prices. We don’t want more than this. When the company lowers the price, a 10km journey will fetch only 8,000 riel – and 15 per cent is cut [as commission]."

“Let’s think – 8,000 riel to transport [a passenger] a distance of 10km? There is very little money left after paying for the gas,” Nary said.
I used TADA a few times but found the wait was longer so reverted back to, I would try again though as the app was good and maps loaded very fast

Edit: changed passapp %

Do the driver apps give alerts when a request comes in or do you need to keep each app open?
I think any sensible driver would have all the apps, and respond first to alerts with the highest payout
In fact there should be an app for that . . .

The prices are already low enough that I care more about wait time, good driving and fairness, than price
Who counts hundreds? Just add your tip and round to the nearest 500 or 1000 or dollar
Grab seem predatory to me
Also their app wants permission to make calls
No thanks
