Downturn for Adidas supplier
https://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/ ... -expansion
The owner quoted three reasons for the "huge" fall in profits:
1. Shift in markets from Europe to Asia. (Translate - Europeans buying less and Asians won't pay such high prices)
2. Increase in labour costs, salaries going up.
3. Rising spending on admin (???)
His solution:
1. Cut costs (no salary increases for a while).
2. Get Adidas to buy more stuff and/or pay higher prices (good luck with that one - see above).
With continued downturn in Europe and the downturn just beginning in the USA, things don't look too bright for the factory owners. Heaven forbid if tariffs get imposed by the USA or EU.

Adidas is my go-to brand these days. Can't go into a sportswear shop to buy a pair of Adidas shoes, socks and a couple t-shirts without spending over $200 though.

In the USA or Asia? I'm guessing they price lower in Asia. Maybe I'm wrong.General Mackevili wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 2:10 pm Adidas is my go-to brand these days. Can't go into a sportswear shop to buy a pair of Adidas shoes, socks and a couple t-shirts without spending over $200 though.

Typically Bangkok. I could be wrong but it seems their prices are higher than back home.armchairlawyer wrote:In the USA or Asia? I'm guessing they price lower in Asia. The US is enjoying an economic boom atm. Forecasts for the 2nd quarter are predicted to be 4% (JP Morgan).armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 2:05 pm https://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/ ... -expansion

The Fed’s median projection for this year is a 2.8 percent expansion, short of the Trump administration’s three percent goal. But that would be the best annual performance for the economy since 2005, prior to the housing bust, the financial crisis, and the Obama administration’s ill-fated stimulus attempts.
Maybe you were thinking of Europe?

The USA has had eight quarters of accelerating growth, an astonishing run, but the party's over now. Wall Street commentators (and the Fed) will be the last to know. Look at how consumer discretionary stocks have peaked and consumer staples are rising. The market is always the first to know.IraHayes wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 4:36 pm
