Five sick after bomb exposure in Svay Rieng
6 October 2017
Five people in Svay Rieng’s Koki commune were exposed to what appeared to be a chemical weapon yesterday, a day after officials successfully removed one of two decades-old tear gas bombs located in the same commune.

Heng Ratana, director of the Cambodia Mine Action Centre, said four children around the age of 14 and one adult woman were exposed and are suffering from vomiting, headaches and respiratory difficulties. “It was around 3 kilometres away from our operation. They were checking something in the ground,” Ratana said, adding that officials would investigate further today...

Three chemical bomb victims back in hospital
10 October 2017
Three villagers exposed to a chemical bomb in Svay Rieng province’s Korki commune have returned to hospital for further treatment after being discharged on Saturday. Deputy district governor Sour Mol said the three victims were readmitted because their conditions deteriorated.

The trio are among 10 villagers who fell ill after being exposed to chemicals in a bomb they mistook for scrap metal last week. Out of the 10 affected, eight were sent to the district hospital.
“They had difficulty breathing, sticky eyes, sore throats, severe body aches and hyperthermia,” Mr Mol said.

Mr Sarorn said he had yet to fully recover. “On Saturday I told doctors that I felt better, but after I slept at home for one night, I felt sick again. My eyes were hurting and I experienced severe headaches, disorientation, coughing and a sore throat,” he said, adding that he and the two other victims were now on intravenous drips.

Mr Sarorn was the one who dug into the ground to unearth what he thought was scrap metal. Chemical powder from the bomb came into direct contact with his face...

Many bomb-findings are being reported in Cambodia at the moment, particularly chemical ones of US origin. These opportune findings and reports could be more than coincidence at a moment of strained relations and diplomatic conflict between the two countries .

From the government news outlet Fresh News :
Svay Rieng (FN), October 9 - Heng Ratana, Director General of Cambodia Mine Action Center (CMAC), reported to Fresh News earlier today that CMAC and the Ministry of Defense have found seven more chemical bombs dropped by the United States during the Vietnam War located in Romeas Hek Village, Koki Commune, Svay Rieng Province.

The chemical bombs continue to pop up.

Deminers informed of 14 more chemical bombs
Wed, 11 October 2017
Cambodia's top demining official said that authorities have discovered or received reports of about 14 new chemical bombs in Svay Rieng’s Koki commune as of yesterday.

“As of today . . . there are 14 [new] bombs,” said Heng Ratana, director of the Cambodia Mine Action Centre.

Authorities discovered two bombs filled with tear gas at the town’s primary school and pagoda in January. Demining officials descended on Koki commune last week, following an anti-American tirade from Prime Minister HE...

The article also states that "While the bomb on the grounds of the primary school has been removed, Ratana said authorities are having difficulty finding the bomb at the pagoda."

How can they find it and then lose it. A previous article stated they had both been fenced off.!!!!!!!!

I guess they are all just popping up out of the ground at this particular time and it is only a coincidence that anti American sentiments going on too. =@

This was published in a Reuters article yesterday.
Does anyone have an idea if this figure is correct, or what the source is ? It seems excessive.
Cambodia ranks among the world's nations most littered with unexploded ordnance, says the Mines Advisory Group, which helps find and destroy unexploded devices that kill and injure an average of two Cambodians each week.

Chemical weapons org starts inquiry
12 December 2017
A team from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons arrived in Cambodia Sunday night, with officials saying they will investigate chemical weapons dropped by the United States during the Vietnam War.

Cambodian officials first appealed in October to the OPCW, which is the implementing body of the 1997 Chemical Weapons Convention, complaining about non-lethal CS tear gas bombs found in Svay Rieng.

The presence of the chemical bombs became a contentious point between Cambodia and the United States, with the US Embassy accusing Cambodian officials of politicising the issue amid a general deterioration in relations between the two countries.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Defence Minister Tea Banh said the US has not taken responsibility for its chemical weapons legacy, and identified Mondulkiri, Svay Rieng and Tbong Khmum as the provinces most affected.

Banh told reporters that the OPCW team went to Mondulkiri yesterday, and will begin investigating there today. “This is the successful first step for Cambodia, which used to be victimised, and some ignored us and did not think about our problems. However, this organisation seems to be interested and . . . [can] find a way to neutralise or solve the problem happening in Cambodia,” Banh said.

“We plan to go to Mondulkiri, Tbong Khmum and Svay Rieng provinces. Svay Rieng is the hottest area where we discovered it in many locations,” Banh said.
In addition to CS tear gas, officials believe Agent Orange and blister agents are still present in Svay Rieng...

Chemical weapons experts kick off operations
13 December 2017
The Defence Ministry’s chemical weapons experts and officials from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) started their operations to inspect chemical bomb site in Mondulkiri province’s O’Reang district on Wednesday.

The chemical bombs were believed to have been dropped by the US in the 1970s during the Vietnam War.

The operations started after Cambodia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry filed a request to the OPCW, asking for experts to be sent to investigate and evaluate the impact of chemical weapons in Cambodia.

The working group has now started its operations to inspect the chemical bombs and began in Mondulkiri province, one of three different sites. The others are in Tbong Khmum and Svay Rieng provinces.
An official who declined to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said: “This site alone, now we found eight chemical barrel bombs which are buried in the ground.”

The Cambodian Mines Action Center claims to have discovered more than 50 locations of US bombs dropped in Svay Rieng province alone and 22 of the sites include chemical bombs.

Good to see some people wearing '' dust masks '' to keep out those dangerous chemical fumes that you could breath in and damage your lungs.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
