Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Are you kidding? The US paid zero war reparations anywhere in the region, because they don't agree that they should have to. The one condition that prevented the normalization of US-Viet relations for 2 decades was that the Viets demanded reparations, and it wasn't until the demand was dropped that relations were repaired. The $120 million the US has paid so far for UXO clearance is probably equal to the figure they paid daily for bombing the country (that they weren't officially at war with) for years.

How many billion dollars did they drop on Cambodia? Yes, of course, i remember now, it was the US that forced the Japs to pay war reperations to the US. :D Also something to do with bombs. :?

I think the original loan was around $120 million. A stitch in time and all that. Or in Cambodia's case - just wait untill someone offers to pay and do it for you. re Mong the Mans recent Mango release where he kept distancing himself from government decisions even though he is a CPP senator.

Ok, I'll try and break it down for you.

How many billion dollars did they drop on Cambodia?

How many billions of dollars did the US spend on carpet bombing Cambodia.

Yes, of course, i remember now, it was the US that forced the Japs to pay war reperations to the US. :D

Pointing out that the US made the Japanese pay war damages after WWII.

Also something to do with bombs. :?

Taking the piss that even though they dropped two A bombs on Japan, the US made the Japanese pay.

Meaning that the loan was as much as US contributions to uxo clearance. And that the CPP tend to not pay their debts, but prefer to hold out if they can, and giving the example of Mong Reththy and his mango problems as an example. Didn't you read yesterday that the Japanese, i think, were going to pay for and build everything for him? Only took well over 6 years of waiting. The unpaid debt i was referring to here was the one he owes Cambodians.

500lb bomb recovered and defused in Kampong Speu
2 October 2017
The Cambodian Mine Action Centre on Saturday recovered a 500-pound bomb in Kampong Speu province’s Phnom Srouch district.

CMAC director-general Heng Ratana yesterday said the US-made MK82 bomb was defused and removed after the centre was notified by provincial authorities.

It is believed to have been dropped by US aircraft in the 1970s. “The bomb has been safely removed and transferred to a CMAC facility,” Mr Ratana said.

Experts unearth first of two bombs at school
5 October 2017
- One of two chemical bombs buried at a school and pagoda in Svay Rieng province was yesterday unearthed by an expert team from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre after two days of efforts.
An excavator discovered the device at a depth of 0.8 metres at about 11.30am. The CMAC team said the bomb had probably moved three metres from where it was originally buried, putting it closer to the nearby school.

The two CS gas bombs were dropped on Korki village in 1971 but did not explode, so locals buried them to prevent the chemicals from leaking out.

The team yesterday used heavy duty tarpaulin to cover the bomb and protect it from exposure to sunlight and rain. A temporary shelter was subsequently built over it.

According to CMAC officials, the bomb was misshapen, rusty and covered with damp yellow powder. Specialist equipment detected traces of the chemicals inside.

Experts from the National Authority for the Prohibition of Chemical, Nuclear Biological and Radiological Weapons later arrived on site dressed in full protective gear to start making preparations for disposal of the bomb...

Elsewhere, but in the same commune...

Five sick after bomb exposure in Svay Rieng
6 October 2017
Five people in Svay Rieng’s Koki commune were exposed to what appeared to be a chemical weapon yesterday, a day after officials successfully removed one of two decades-old tear gas bombs located in the same commune.

Heng Ratana, director of the Cambodia Mine Action Centre, said four children around the age of 14 and one adult woman were exposed and are suffering from vomiting, headaches and respiratory difficulties. “It was around 3 kilometres away from our operation. They were checking something in the ground,” Ratana said, adding that officials would investigate further today...
