Kampot: On February 14, a 60 year old, Cambodian man,Sim Vann, died and another man, aged 50, was left in a critical condition after drinking Cambodian herbal wine and eating dog meat at Kampong Kreng Villege, Chouk district, Kampot.

The source said the two men drank herbal wine and ate dog meat at a Village stall in Kampang Kreng village. Immediately afterwards, they began to vomit seriously, so a relative of the victims took both of them to the Vietnamese hospital straight away.
Unfortunately, Sim Vann died in hospital and the relatives took the body back to his hometown. The other man was being treated by doctors, and is expected to recover.

No other deaths or illness have been reported by other eaters of dog meat or drinkers of medicinal wine in Kampang Kreng village. The cause of death is presumed to be tied to the consumption of the dog meat and/or the rice wine, but no autopsy was conducted to determine the reason for the illness.

The dog was fine, it was the rice wine that dunnit. Another tragedy caused by stupidity. The victims were warned, but they drank it anyway.

Man dies from drinking rice wine
At least one man died and another was sent to hospital after they drank rice wine and ate dog meat on Wednesday evening in Kampot province’s Teuk Chhou district.

Sou Buntheoun, Teuk Chhou district deputy police chief, said yesterday that the victims bought the rice wine and mixed it with many herbal supplements for about an hour prior to drinking it.

“We questioned the herbal supplement seller about what kinds of herbs the victims put into the rice wine. He said that those herbs were poisonous and the drinkers needed to soak them in the rice wine for at least seven to ten days before drinking it in order to make it safe,” he said.

Mr Buntheoun said the victims did not follow what the herbal seller told them, causing them to be poisoned.

“We did not arrest or detain the herbal supplement seller. We just asked him about the case,” said Mr Buntheoun, adding that he informed leaders in all of his communes to instruct villagers to learn from the tragedy.

You have to cook dog for quite a while so it's not usually the thing that poisons you. Those concoctions are usually about invigoration or increasing "power" or inner fires or some shit, which is what eating dog is supposed to do. I'm guessing they were feeling a bit poorly to start with. IS eating dog lucky or not at this time of year?

Kampot Provincial Court has charged a herbal supplement seller over the accidental death of a man who mixed the supplements with rice wine and downed the brew prematurely.

I Vietnam at least, chowing down on dog and its relative luck merits are somehow connected to the cycle of the moon so the restaurants are packed during some parts of the month and empty at others.

was thinking the buyers pay first then the herb sellers does the mixing and only releases it to the buyer when it is considered ok to do so. simple change of practice
