Shame on them. A young woman has died .Will this be enough to get the Sihanoukville authorities to do something about the slavery of Cambodians and foreigners who are working illegally for the Chinese online gangs ?

Online gaming has been outlawed by the highest authorities in Cambodia, including HE, so they should step up here and enforce their laws.

STEP UP CAMBODIA AND CHINA - protect your citizens from slavery.

They'd better hurry up, whatever they're doing, because this story is fucking ripe to blow open and go worldwide. Massive human trafficking ring, ridiculous, revolting.

The original reports say they were locked up since March 2020.

UPDATE: Sihanoukville provincial authorities and other officials are still saying that the young woman casino worker, Hean Sreynich, died from food poisoning and dehydration.
Meanwhile, the Century Hotel and Casino in Sihanoukville has been closed, and the building is currently being used as a Covid-19 quarantine and treatment center.

S'ville casino probed over alleged confinement amid Covid outbreak
Post Staff | Publication date 02 October 2021 | 19:33 ICT

Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities will investigate allegations that 400 staff members at the Century Hotel and Casino in Sihanoukville were confined and forced to work although the establishment had a recent outbreak of Covid-19.

In a press statement, the provincial administration said if this was true, it would take legal action against the casino.

The investigation comes after a Facebook user with account name Doung Chan Sreypov went live along with four other colleagues on September 30 claiming that staff were confined and forced to work after an outbreak of Covid-19 in the casino.

The provincial administration has recently said it will prosecute owners of any hotels and casinos involved in confining and forcing people to work, or if they are involved in human trafficking under the cover of employment.

In the press statement in response to the allegations, it clarified that a quick reaction team from the provincial health department went to the Century casino and took samples from staff and found that many were positive for the disease.

It said authorities had since then used the casino as a quarantine and treatment centre for staff because it met the requirements. Authorities also gave the casino staff the option of receiving treatment at hospitals.

It said the Covid-19-positive casino employees had been well treated by medical personnel and given four meals per day by the casino owner.

It noted that there was one patient who was not well, vomited and was dehydrated and later died after being admitted to hospital with doctors confirming she suffered from food poisoning and dehydration.

The provincial administration rejected the accusation by Chan Sreypov who claimed that five people had tested positive and were denied treatment, though it would continue investigation.

Provincial hall spokesman Kheang Phearom told The Post on October 2 that all of the employees were receiving ongoing treatment at the casino.

According to the staff, the casino is owned by a Chinese man. It currently employs 400 people, including Chinese nationals.

Thats a good idea keeping staff with covid locked up in the casino, and while they are recovering they most well be working, oh your free to go get treatment outside (but at what cost). Humanity at its best can be seen everywhere down the new great tourist present known as westpoint Fu*ken Hell

With that number of infections would there really been any other alternative but to treat the unfortunate whom had become infected by the virus.
Covid-19 quarantine and treatment center! Someone in authority acted very quickly and positively too attend to these people who were in need of medical treatment, alternatively has I had mentioned what could be done without putting risk too other people in the community and country overall. It seems ripe for a community outbreak of a very large scale. It must be said, how long would the initial problem have carried on without the whistleblowers and that of good media reporting. Again, it seems that the authorities don't know what is going on around them, although there had been previous reports that the competent authority had been paid too turn a blind eye too the situations of this type of nature. Personally, I was under some kind of impression that Cambodia was making headway in stamping out corruption. I also have never read a news report of this kind of nature before, we see possible corruption here at the highest level, also that of high criminal activity, online gambling operations, working and human rights, with pre-investigations due to allegations, the possibilities of human trafficking and forced work imprisonment of national and foreign people. What is the saddest point of this, is that a young lady has lost her life, possibly for being held and forced by her employers to carry on with her daily work.
Here employers knew of the employees having covid19 infections, one question, were the authorities aware too? I could answer the question too myself, saying I would have thought so, and if correct! Where was the care and reports from those authority figures. This monitoring alone from employers and competent authorities could have saved the young ladies life.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

That was the reason they give for locking people up for six months. “Because Covid. Must stay on site”.

I still see advert on FB for this job. I think they’ve got gullible locals to advertise it so they can make a quick buck. I doubt some even write English just cope and paste the words.
People of the world, spice up your life.
