Controversy pictures over Angkor Sangkrant

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Btw it isn't the goat of Chinese ,but Chhnam Mormay.

Those are Chinese temples, that's why they all have Chinese writing on them whether they are in China, Vietnam or Cambodia. Also those zodiac symbols are originally from China, not Cambodia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_zodiac
Chinese writting on the temples in case it relates to Chinese's fund. But we don't talk about this and the pictures inthe post are some Chinese temples. Or you think the gate at Angkor Wat look like Chinese temples?
Another thing, Cambodia is a country which was influenced by Chinese's and Idian's cultures. But the goats on the gate are the symbol of Chhnam Mormay in Khmer language. Khmer New year a bit later than Chinese new year.

I heard they are under 99 years contract of Vietnam companies. And Angkor Wat is controlled by Sok Kong's company
Sok Kong's companies Sokha Group and Sokimex are Cambodian companies registered in Cambodia. They are not Vietnamese companies. The problem is that people in Cambodia don't understand the difference between ethnicity and nationality. Sok Kong is ethnically Vietnamese, but he was born here in Cambodia, so his nationality is Cambodian.
Thanks for sharing. I have no idea about it, but I heard what people talk was about ethnicity, not nationality.

i think vietnamese people may not agree, but it is correct to a point.

i think the very large chinese influx here has better assimilated with khmer via intermarriage than with vietnamese.
most of my friends have a chinese grandparent.

young Khmer do not seem to realize the implications of modern regional politics.
it is obvious in light of history that the country will need a close relationship with a much larger state.
asean 2015? well maybe, but.

China will end up the tutelary power here unless uncle sam develops the region a lot more.

cam ranh may end up usn.

Just as there is a prominent Chinese pagoda at Bokor (widely claimed by idiots to be Vietnamese in spite of the presence of Chinese characters and design elements) I'm guessing the gate also reflects a desire to appeal to the predominant foreign visitors of the temple, the largest group if you lumped them together who would be Chinese and Vietnamese, (though the roof style is common all over east Asia, including Korea, visitor #1).Which is not to suggest that the red-white cit olor combination is unknown in Cambodia, it's obviously not, though it is more common in Thailand. Red and yellow were the colors of the Khmer Isaraak, Salvation front and PRK. The green and yellow on the side columns reflects the colors of the pre-colonial Khmer flag.

sorry.

cam ranh bay is a huge navy base in vietnam. clarke was a US airforce installation and subic a US navy( usn ) base in Philippines for many years.

I am suggesting the US may have an interest in occupying these places again.

Angkor Wat is not controlled by Sokha Hotels. All they do is sell the tickets.

What? Was it made out of papier-mache or something? Even the goats burned away.

A reliable Khmer source tells me the contractors themselves burned it in response to the criticism it's attracted, and quite magically the new one to be built will look more traditionally Cambodian.
