Controversy pictures over Angkor Sangkrant
Re: Controversy pictures over Angkor Sangkrant
You're right. Especially the roof which the designers are claiming is inspired by umbrellas in carvings. The shape is completely different.prahkeitouj wrote:The art inside is copy from Khmer style but the color, the roof, the shape of gate and the two anchors really look like Vietnam style. I don't want to analyse it. Horrible meaning !
But I don't actually think they deliberately copied a Chinese or Vietnamese style, they probably just tried to design a unique gate, came up with this and now people are finding similarities to a Vietnamese style that wasn't intentional.

The thing is that they don't agree with everyone of us as you have quoted above. They are still saying that it is 100% completely khmer architecture. Not to mention, the colour is way damn ugly.Rama wrote:You're right. Especially the roof which the designers are claiming is inspired by umbrellas in carvings. Re: Controversy pictures over Angkor Sangkrant
This whole subject just highlights the stupid racist shit that's all over Facebook and Cambodia at the moment. It's just another example of people making something out of nothing in order to stir up hatred for the Vietnamese.
Firstly all of the pictures that they use as evidence to show that the gate is "yuon" are pictures of Chinese temples in Vietnam. They look exactly like the Chinese temples in Cambodia, why is everyone not shouting about the Chinese, why is it the Yuon? Oh yes, now I remember, because everybody is busy getting drunk for Cheng Meng.
Secondly, the only thing Chinese/Vietnamese about that gate is the colours and now that lots of other pictures have been posted we can see that the original poster had clearly modified the original image to make the yellow and red colours much more bright. The original pictures (that haven't been photoshopped) look more like the dark red and gold that is common on Cambodian buildings such as wat's, the palace or the council of ministers.
Thirdly, why is no one talking about the fucking goats? It's the Chinese year of the goat, that is the part of the gate that is 100%, undoubtedly, abso-fucking-lutely not Khmer. Yet no one is angry about that, why is that? Oh yes, now I remember, everyone in Cambodia knows what year they are, they even use their symbol to decide who to marry and which years to have their children, but let's not talk about that. Let's get back to the important business of hating the "yuon".

Hehe.... yes, it might be like that. Why Cambodians do care about it, if they like adopting foreign culture? :pRama wrote:You're right. What sort of stupidity is that? Last time I checked, a temporary arch across a road did not change the ownership of anything. Many of them said, perhaps Angkor Wat and Bokor Mountain are no longer belong to the kingdom.
The modern Vietnamese flag is directly influenced by the USSR's. Maybe the Russians own Cambodia now?Are red and yellow historic colors associated with the Khmer royal family? From my superficial view, those colors would seem to reflect the modern Vietnamese flag and not the Cambodian flag colors...but I'm not aware of the historical color significance.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I heard they are under 99 years contract of Vietnam companies. And Angkor Wat is controlled by Sok Kong's companyJohn Bingham wrote:Many of them said, perhaps Angkor Wat and Bokor Mountain are no longer belong to the kingdom.

Those are Chinese temples, that's why they all have Chinese writing on them whether they are in China, Vietnam or Cambodia. Also those zodiac symbols are originally from China, not Cambodia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_zodiacprahkeitouj wrote: Chinese and Vietnam 's culture are very similar.

Sok Kong's companies Sokha Group and Sokimex are Cambodian companies registered in Cambodia. They are not Vietnamese companies. The problem is that people in Cambodia don't understand the difference between ethnicity and nationality. Sok Kong is ethnically Vietnamese, but he was born here in Cambodia, so his nationality is Cambodian.prahkeitouj wrote:I heard they are under 99 years contract of Vietnam companies. ""Chinese and Vietnam 's culture are very similar. ""
i think vietnamese people may not agree, but it is correct to a point.
i think the very large chinese influx here has better assimilated with khmer via intermarriage than with vietnamese.
most of my friends have a chinese grandparent.
young Khmer do not seem to realize the implications of modern regional politics.
it is obvious in light of history that the country will need a close relationship with a much larger state.
asean 2015? well maybe, but.
China will end up the tutelary power here unless uncle sam develops the region a lot more.
cam ranh may end up usn.
subic and clarke too.
