Conman James G Eglitis (Oz) and Brett Hastie (NZ) Arrested for Robbing Learn4Life English Teacher in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It's the most awful thing and victims of conmen are victims of crime like any other victims - don't blame the victim - you have no idea what it's like.
Those who know me will tell you I'm not stupid or naive, in fact most people are shocked when they hear my story. My conman was Andrew John Harper - Google him, there's a video of me crying about it on Today Tonight.
Geeez, rozzieoz. It was very brave of you to do that show and tell your story, and I am sad that happened to you But sorry, I don't see how anyone falls for that. "I'm a billionaire, but could you lend me a few thousand dollars cash?" Really?

Not saying this situation is the same but just saying they can be really convincing.

sorry to hear that rozzieoz,

Yep, I have been caught out before as well,
maybe not to the same degree, but yes they can be deceptively convincing, it is like they are so confident and believe the BS they propagate...

I was woman number 21 in 10 years! He conned some major Aussie celebrities and sports people and none of them suspected he wasn't a lawyer. He had politicians convinced he was a renewable energy / carbon credits expert

Rozzieoz,

real sorry about your situation but kudos to you for fighting back.
A few years ago I got ripped off in a business matter and I appreciate and understand how it effects everything day to day.

Hope things are better now and all the best.

Yeah, that's quite a story! Glad you're good now and are confident enough to admit being scammed.

Well, early in my travels I was ready to go on a cruise ship with a group on Filipinos that I met in Penang, Malaysia because one of them was a card dealer on there and randomly had a sister studying nursing in my city.

I think it was about 5 years until it finally dawned on me that it was the beginning of a typical scam and that I was never going to be sailing around Asia for free with my new Filipino friends.

It appears James Guido Egnlitis is still in Siem Reap Prison, and Brett Hastie is going "off the grid" with his buddy this week.

Interesting that the newspaper didn't print anything about his claims that his victim was a pedophile. They probably didn't want to be sued for defamation.
