Conman James G Eglitis (Oz) and Brett Hastie (NZ) Arrested for Robbing Learn4Life English Teacher in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

If Eglitis is extradited, Hastie will be the only cash cow available to the judiciary, he better hope they haven't heard of the plan to raise $45,000, launched by a friend of the family, or the demand they present him with is going to be a lot more than the norm. :hattip:

"Australian authorities are looking into the possible extradition of a 68-year-old man" is not the same as "Australia seeks Extradition". Not even close to the same. Given that they've known where James has been for years (in China, Thailand and Cambodia) - it seems unlikely that they're going to be looking any harder than they have for the last few years.

Valid point.

According to Brett Hastie, all charges against him have been dropped!

He should probably share the legal documents that he says he's received, clearing his name.

A New Zealand man arrested in Cambodia after an elderly teacher was attacked and robbed has today been told all charges against him have been dropped.

Dunedin man Brett Hastie, 44, today received a letter from Cambodian authorities telling him he had been released from all charges.

Mr Hastie was taken into custody last October alongside Australian fugitive Guido James Eglitis, 68, after a 66-year-old Briton was attacked and had his passport and camera stolen.

Funny how they always have a reason for beating people up after the fact.

"We was stopping pedophilia" sounds better than admitting he was probably the muscle assisting a man wanted for a robbery in Australia.

I've been the victim of a career conman - they can be bloody convincing. I lost everything and had to start over, because of promises that just never eventuated. It's the most awful thing and victims of conmen are victims of crime like any other victims - don't blame the victim - you have no idea what it's like.
Those who know me will tell you I'm not stupid or naive, in fact most people are shocked when they hear my story. My conman was Andrew John Harper - Google him, there's a video of me crying about it on Today Tonight.
