Clean Cut US Overstayer Crumbles

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

That is dressing for court in the West, Clemen.
It's bog standard basic in Cambodia. I try to dress to this same standard of a good Tuk Tuk driver or lowly Khmer country school teacher eg, every day i go out in Phnom Penh. As a mark of respect for Cambodians, as well as myself.
Gets you places in local's minds too - a very different response to when i wear even my best resort wear.

eg, look at the immigration guys, he's getting respect of a kind you very rarely see in these photo's.
and that is at least due in part to his dress code. for sure.

:stir:

(ps, amongst all my dross, that ^^ thought may be the best, or only, pearl i have ever dropped for some of you guys to think about picking up.)
Something I learnt at an early stage of my life, taught to me by my uncle.

Dress properly in clean clothes. Then putting his hand on my head , chin , shoulders, tummy, etc would say.

Head up.
Eyes looking forward.
Chin up.
Shoulders back.
Chest out.
Tummy in.
Bum in.
Now walk proudly as if you are someone important.

Many times I have walked through troubled areas, roadblocks etc, and even just metres from HE and these lessons always go through my mind beforehand.
It's sad to think that these 'advices-to-live-by', often imparted by fathers or other older male mentors, are so rarely given any more. I think the kids would call you all sorts of names if you told them how to walk.

I don't suppose it helps when 50+ year old men wear ripped jeans like the kids do. A very tragic look...

Sure good clothing makes difference.
I prefer to update my visa and go throught immigration like a breeze though.
Would those two be harassed with a clean visa status ?

Maybe she's a tailor and she found love with her best customer.

This was a thought provoking question Ghost.

I imagined them walking through immigration at PP airport.

The lady would obviously breeze through, as generally women have a free pass to wearing what they like. (Except in Muslim Countries), although indecorous appearance is frowned upon.

The guy would have to be a fool to wear that outfit when facing authority figures at the gateway to a Kingdom, except in a National Uniform official capacity. Otherwise he is clean, except for a straggly beard which shouldn't be sported unless full and well groomed.

Both would have to remove their sunshades to reveal their eyes, as is custom for millennia and carried on with the IRIS scan today.

Neither would have visa issues, because they attend to detail when dressing which gives the impression they are in control of their lives.

Overall, hipster cum flashpackers with a dash of cash, unlikely to cause trouble - welcome to Cambodia, Enjoy your Stay - Stamp!!

Now if he had a name tag on his shirt pocket, he might be mistaken for a missionary that just lost his way.. :hattip:

And clean underwear in case you have an accident.

Doctors in casualty shame those with dirty underwear on FB.

Bloody hipster wannabies. 'always doing this.
They borrow Ned Kelly's beard and they call themselves bushrangers.

These gooses are just copying exactly what we were wearing all through the '70's.
Bloody hell, we brought this whole look to the Asians, From Kuta Beach all the way through to Tangiers.
they were actually quite conservative with their style and colours before that.

I dunno what it is but he doesn't fit the "usual suspect" stereotype.

Even his collars are ironed, although his pants seem a little worse for wear.

Perhaps his religious God abandoned him.

He is sporting the Buddhist red wrist=band, so due a refund from the pagoda.

He's well dressed, he's clean, he has luggage, not a bag from happy mart. I'm just curious if he actually turned himself in? Most of the people we see posted here don't seem like they have the foresight to "turn themselves in to the competent authorities for the legal procedure".
And I want to be cremated, but somewhere, etched in carbonite I want that engraved.
up to you...
