HE: Claim that China is ‘invading’ Kingdom is crazy
interesting;
the khmers, (along with the Burmese who are the back bone of the construction Industry in Thailand) go to Thailand to work for better wages, yet He states the Chinese travel to Cambodia for the same??

https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/ ... g6nlKdxp5gSpeaking to members of Cambodian diaspora in Geneva, Switzerland, HE said some people were concerned about the influx of Chinese nationals who live and work in the Kingdom, particularly in Preah Sihanouk province.
He argued that the Chinese are in Cambodia to “fill the gap in the Kingdom’s construction labour market”.
“There are a lot of construction projects [in Cambodia], but we don’t have enough skilled workers, therefore we have to bring [the Chinese] in to build our bridges and help with many other projects."
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

He's right though. The migrant labourers are unskilled. There is plenty of that around, but a dearth of skilled labour.

Are the bulk of Chinese workers skilled?canucklhead wrote:He's right though. The migrant labourers are unskilled. There is plenty of that around, but a dearth of skilled labour.
Are they being paid USD or Riel in Cambodia, or paid Yuan within China?

Borrow money from the chinese to build something
Only chinese firms used to do the work
All materials come through china or chinese firms
All the labour is chinese
The workers set up enclaves and stay
Host country fails to repay loan
China claims whatever was build as theirs in lieu of debt
Colonization complete and the host country paid for it.

^That happened in other Asian countries already so why not here.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

An old article but.....
China now exports its convicts by Brahma Chellaney Jul 5, 2010
Relieving pressure on overcrowded national prisons by employing convicts as laborers at Chinese-run projects in the developing world is a novel strategy China has adopted.........
The Chinese practice in overseas projects, including in Africa, is to keep the number of local workers to the minimum and to bring in much of the workforce from China. The novel twist is that some batches of laborers now being brought in are made up of convicts “freed” on parole for project-related overseas work.
The convict laborers, like the rest of the Chinese workforce, are housed near the project site. The Chinese logic is that if any convict worker escaped, it would be easy to find the runaway in an alien setting. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/opinion/20 ... 9FaA_loRLM

Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Kyrgistan, numerous others:

then there is Africa where the picture is even more obvious.
the failure of the west to invest in emerging economies in the wake of decolonization left the door wide open.
a centrally planned economy is much more able to allocate and mobilize capital expenditure than the senescent "democracies" of the west.
Cambodia undoubtedly needs a powerful regional ally in order to exist given it's geographic position.
i agree that the label of invasion is crazy, there is no resistance to the presence of the PRC, they are here as investors, by invitation.
