CityHall Is Losing $100K Every Month for Public Bus Service
City Hall is losing $100K every month for public bus service
Phnom Penh: Mr. Pa Socheatavong, the governor of Phnom Penh city said that the public bus service that carry passenger every day in Phnom Penh by charging 1500 riel each way is not making profit at all, every month the city hall has to subsidize $100k for all the expense every month. The reason that the public bus service is not making profit, because most of the passengers on daily basis were those who are not required to pay the money, when using public bus service. Mr. Pa Socheatavong mentioned this during a meeting about the problem of heavy transportation with the representative from each good transportation companies and passenger transportation companies which was held on 20 August 2015.
Mr. Pa Socheatavong added that, presently for the public bus service in Phnom Penh city we have 57 buses to operate on 3 different routes and according to the reality the number of the bus is not enough yet. However, in the late 2016, we will have 280 buses more to operate since the government of Republic of China will donate 100 used buses to us and at the same time Japan will donate 180 used buses to us too via Jica.
Mr. Pa Socheatavong continued, In the future City Hall is planning to transform it into a transportation company in partnership with private companies and will operate many routes to provinces. However, City Hall still allow student, monk, older people and disable people to use the public bus service without paying money.

I want to take a bus to work too, but there are not many bus stops near my house and my work place. And there is no bicycle parking near the bus stops.

If Cambodia cannot organize a rubbish collection service you cannot expect them to organize a bus service. They could start by selling a bit of the advertising space on the sides of the bus, then more advertising on the inside of each bus.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The rubbish is collected daily and the buses have been running for over a year so you might have Cambodia confused with a different country. Are you in Cameroon or perhaps Colombia?Duncan wrote:If Cambodia cannot organize a rubbish collection service you cannot expect them to organize a bus service. It is funny that every tuk tuk in PP has an advert on the back whilst buses have none. This despite the fact that tuk-tuks are parked for 22 hours a day whilst the buses operate for 14 hours a day.
Scarier than malaria.

Not in Pochentong it isn't. Once a week, maybe twice if you're lucky and not on a regular/scheduled day.

Some of the buses have Cambodia beer adverts on them.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
