Re: CityHall Is Losing $100K Every Month for Public Bus Serv
This is the same buses that when nobody was riding them during the experiment they decided to put in more because the problem was appparently that there weren't enough.

You won't wait for long if there is no traffic jam. There is not much traffic if everyone take the buses.Samouth wrote:haha you beat me to this UTUsername Taken wrote:And some are painted green with Smart ads all over them.
BTW i have never used the public bus. I guess i have no patient to wait for long time.

It's good to see the progress, but in my experience the !@#$ Lexus drivers are still parking in the bus bays, which means the buses are stopping in the middle of the street, which means the traffic is worse not better.

City says bus system loses $100K a month
[Edit: Removed copy paste of entire article /UnluckyBurger]
http://www.phnompenhpost.com/business/c ... 100k-monthThe public bus service run by City Hall has been hemorrhaging about $100,000 a month, according to the local authorities.
Long Dimanche, spokesman for the Phnom Penh municipality, confirmed the figure yesterday, after it was first revealed by local media following a meeting last week between the Phnom Penh governor and private transport companies.
The spokesman chalked up the losses to the low-cost of bus tickets, currently 1,500 riel [or $0.37], as well as a free pass given to students, disabled travellers, the elderly and monks.

How many municipal bus services in the west make money? Not many.
Hey, but China is donating 100 (used-read maintenance problems) to add to the mix.
That's 100 more drivers who need to be paid, 100 more buses needing diesel and oil, etc.
Ban cars, end of.

I think they should run the buses along St 63 and restrict access to others with fences and bollards. That would make waiting for a bus more pleasant as there would be less traffic noise and air pollution and journeys would be faster due to less traffic. I wouldn't hold your breath though. They can't even be bothered to provide real pavements here.prahkeitouj wrote:You won't wait for long if there is no traffic jam. There is not much traffic if everyone take the buses.

and the buses have been running for over a year so you might have Cambodia confused with a different country. Are you in Cameroon or perhaps Colombia?
It is funny that every tuk tuk in PP has an advert on the back whilst buses have none. This despite the fact that tuk-tuks are parked for 22 hours a day whilst the buses operate for 14 hours a day.
Actually there may not be a need for a daily rubbish collection as there are rubbish bins for residents to put their rubbish in.
Just a matter of finding one .

Hello KT, It's $30M and buses... But the development of public transport in PP is more than welcome.
Japan Gives $30 for Busses, Demining
The Japanese government will provide almost $30 million in grant aid to Cambodia to boost Phnom Penh’s public bus system and to strengthen ongoing demining operations.
At a signing ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, minister Long Visalo and outgoing Japanese Ambassador Yuji Kunamaru, Mr. Kunamaru said that $13 million would be spent on improving the city’s bus capacity.
“The Japanese government is going to provide a budget of 1.396 billion yen [about $13 million] for procuring 80 buses in Phnom Penh because of the rapid growth of the urban population and increase of private vehicles in the city,” he said.
He added that the traffic conditions and urban environment in the capital is worsening year-on-year.
“This project aims to improve the traffic situation in Phnom Penh by enhancing the transportation capacity of public buses.”
