Chamkar Mon district police will likely send a Chinese woman to court today over attempted murder accusations after she hit two Cambodian men with her SUV, leaving them hospitalised.

Captain Sok Sarith, a Phnom Penh police officer, said that the incident took place on Monday night, when the Chinese woman was driving her SUV with a single passenger in Toul Tompoung II commune.

At about 11.30pm, the Chinese driver of the SUV ran down two Cambodian men and claimed afterwards that she did so because she feared they were going to rob her.

“They suspected that the two Cambodian men were thieves and were going to take their phones,” he said of the two Chinese women in the SUV.

“They then turned the SUV and drove to chase and hit them,” he added. “They crashed into their motorbike and caused very serious injuries.”

Cap Sarith said the identities of the Chinese women and the two Cambodian men are not being released as the investigation continues.



He said that police nearby the crash responded to the incident on Monday and detained the two women and sent the two victims to hospital.​ The two women remain in police custody and the victims in hospital.

A senior Chamkar Mon district police officer said yesterday that the Chinese driver will likely be sent to the municipal court today over attempted murder allegations, while her friend will be released.

He added that the two victims will be questioned once they recover.
