Chinese Woman Freed After Kidnap Ordeal in Sihanoukville
Sihanoukville, Cambodia Breaking News: A group of Chinese nationals, who are accused of kidnapping a Chinese woman for extortion, were arrested by the Sihanoukville Provincial Gendarmerie in the evening of January 14, 2020, at a rented house behind the Institute of Vocational Training, in Group 15, Village 2, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville.
The victim of the kidnapping, CHEN GUIQONG, a female Chinese national, was released unharmed.
In this operation, the police forces detained 5 suspects and confiscated 150 yuan, KHR 69,000, 7 passports, one car, one phone, 7 Chinese ID, 1 backpack, 8 masks, and other items.

Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The Supreme Court on the morning of January 31, 2023, held a hearing on the appeals of two Chinese kidnappers, who are appealing their 15 year prison sentences for the abduction of a Chinese woman to extort money in exchange for her release, which occured in Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville, during 2020.
Kong Srim, the presiding judge of the Supreme Court, said at the hearing that the two defendants were identified as ZHENG DONG HUI, male, born in 1992, a mainland Chinese national, and GU JUN QIANG, male, born in 1994, also mainland Chinese.
In this case, the two defendants were arrested by the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Military Police on January 11, 2020 , and were sentenced by the Sihanoukville Provincial Court on April 2, 2020 to 15 years in prison each, on charges of "illegal, aggravated arrest and detention.”according to Article 254 of the Penal Code. (Note that at this time, three other Chinese suspects were arrested and then released.)
The Supreme Court will announce the appeal verdict on the morning of February 6, 2023.
