Chinese Warehouse in Sihanoukville "Dies of Wind"

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Chinese Warehouse in Sihanoukville "Dies of Wind"

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia Breaking News (Sihanoukville): A warehouse belonging to a Chinese owner, constructed in steel with a zinc roof, collapsed on July 3, 2019, in Thmei village, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville. A preliminary explanation is that the construction collapsed because of the bad weather. If the building was a person, you would say that it died of wind, a common diagnosis in Cambodia.
Fortunately, there was nobody injured.

Looks like a huff and a puff should do it. They don't look very solid. :Bravo:

Sihanoukville: Local reports say that today at 5 PM, 6th July 2019, a huge crane on an Otres construction site near Sihanoukville also "died of wind", when it overturned. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.

Glad it was the wind and not the construction. If we avoid warehouses during windy weather we'll all be fine.

Hardly huge, just 50T, but deadly in the hands of an untrained operator.

Yes, it looks like the outrigger was only extended on one side, the wrong side!

They normally have at least 2 outriggers each side, which should be bearing the weight of the crane and load.
