Chinese tourists to Cambodia up 24% in 2015

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

PHNOM PENH - Cambodia attracted some 694,712 Chinese tourists last year, up 24 percent year-on-year, accounting for 14.5 percent of the total international visitors to the country last year, said a report from the Tourism Ministry Monday.

China ranked the second largest source of tourists to Cambodia last year after Vietnam, the report said.

Ang Kim Eang, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, attributed the increase in Chinese visitors to Cambodia to excellent ties between Cambodia and China and many direct flights between the two countries.

"Moreover, Cambodia has a lot of attractive tourism resorts, especially the Angkor archaeological park," he told Xinhua.

Cambodia sees China as a key market for its fast-growing tourism industry. In January, the Southeast Asian country released a white paper, aiming to attract roughly 2 million Chinese tourists by 2020.

I can't recall any impact from them myself, but then I don't live in Siem Reap where the majority of them go to look at AW. Then I heard they just go back home.

In Australasia something like half the Chinese tourists travel independently and many rent cars and campervans and travel the coast fishing as Australians or Kiwis do. They are not like the Japanese a generation ago who followed the person with the flag everywhere. They love our supermarkets with their fresh fruit and vegetables, I see them taking photos of produce all the time.

You don't see groups of Japanese wandering around like that any more, their travel needs have become more sophisticated in the intervening years. Plus, that was before the internet and the rapid spread of travel ideas and instagram photos. Given how fast China's changing I think you'll see those tour groups tail off a lot faster with the Chinese. We need more tourists for more tourist infrastructure, and if we have to have a few of the barrel scrapings now to keep the industry afloat, why hate them? More of them means more flights. Some of them will wander off and do their own thing. More over time.

Commercial espionage old chap.

They already own more than half your grazing properties.
Up next is horticulture. You should take a drive through the Riverina to see the extent of chain link fencing with chinese character "keep out " signs.

But you Aussies never venture far from the coast.
Clueless colonials with your leaders selling your Crown land to all comers to the detriment of your "Nation"

They are in your supermarkets to buy infant formula to sell at a huge markup back home due to the abysmal quality of local and counterfeit brands at home.
Not for amusement, for commerce.
