Chinese Robber Gang Caught by Cambodian Shutdown
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On May 4, 2020, combined police forces from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap arrested 3 Chinese men for stealing around 110,000 USD in a robbery on April 3, 2020, in Sangkat Toul Svay Pey, Khan Beung Keng Kong, Phnom Penh.
The arrest was made under the orders of lieutenant Neth Savoeun, police chief, and lieutenant Ngeng Chou, director of the criminal department, led by lieutenant Cheav Vibol, and coordinated by the prosecutor of Phnom Penh court, Mr. Keo Sothea. The three Chinese suspects, Shan Shiquan, Wei Bingwen, and Zeng Merng, were arrested on their way to the airport in Siem Reap, trying to leave Cambodia.
After the robbery, the suspects drove a Tacoma, plate no. PP2AW-4483, to Siem Reap where they abandonned the vehicle and took a taxi to Banteay Meanchey, attempting to flee to Thailand, but the border was closed. So, they stayed in Banteay Meanchey for two days, and then returned to Sihanoukville.
On May 4, the robber gang traveled from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh and continued on to Siem Reap, heading for the airport, but they were arrested on the way. The three men have been detained in custody pending their trial.

Three foreigners to be sent to court over robbery of $110K
Three Chinese men are scheduled to be sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court tomorrow after they were arrested for robbing their countryman out of more than $110,000 in Phnom Penh.
Colonel Mom Chek, penal police officer with the Interior Ministry’s Penal Department, identified the three Chinese suspects as Shan Shiquan, Wei Bingwen, and Zeng Meng. They are Chinese tourists.
Col Chek said that at about 9pm on April 30, the trio who posed as construction engineers, drove a car to buy construction materials from a Chinese businessman, 45, selling construction material living in Capital’s Boeng Keng Kang district.
He said that on that night, after they entered the victim’s rental house, they caught and beat him.
“After beating the victim, they took away more than $110,000, five luxury phones and other valuable items,” he said.
