Chinese Man Smokes at a Gas Station...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

There's gas, and there's CNG. Both go great with 555s or Marlboro Lights. :stir:

One of my earliest memories in the KoW is a Cambodian ground crew guy refueling the Mi 8 we were using with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. I was like, WTF, we are going to DIE. The Soviet advisor went ballistic on him after I pointed at him. Good times.

Last time I boarded a bus at Sorya bus station, they were dragging a long fuel hose to fill the tanks of buses parked at the stands, right next to passengers who were having a last puff before boarding their bus.

But not impossible. And vapors on a hot day are another matter.

is possible to ignite a pool of gasolineusing only a cigarette. A cigarette has the potential to light a pool of gasoline but just doesn't have enough sustained heat. Gas ignites between 500 °F and 540 °F, the cigarette at its hottest was between 450 °F and 500 °F but only when it was actually being smoked.May 5, 2005

If there was a couple more of them, they could have all spat on the fire, it would soon extinguish!

I assume they were filling up with petrol and the petrol vapour (i.e. gas) exploded.

Possibly, vapour can and will ignite. But it usually is from another source, I would more likely think static from the person filling.

A dropped cigarette sparks...that is very efficient at igniting vapour
