Chinese Expatriates Were Paranoid Following the Recent Rounding Up and Started to Leave Sihnoukville
Sihanoukville: According to Kampuchea Thmey Daily News, within the last couple days after police rounded up Chinese expatriates and arrested 160 Chinese living in Cambodia illegally, it seemed like many guest houses, hotels and rented house normally were full with Chinese became noticeably quiet.
According to owners of guest houses and hotels, from now on, there might be not many Chinese people in Sihanokville like before, because many long term Chinese residents and businessmen decided to move out of Sihanoukville, a place where all of them are in love with. They canceled all renting and leasing contracts. Some of them (Chinese) said , they will be moving to live in Koh Kong or Kampot province and some other said, they are moving back home and some said, they will be investing in Vietnam, Laos and Burma instead . They believed that Sihnoukville is no longer a safe place for their businesses.
People said, the presence of Chinese people in Sihanoukville is a big contribution in reducing poverty in Cambodia as most of them are businessman, investors. They provided jobs to Cambodian, not to mention, people in the markets and owners of guest houses and hotels also get benefits from their presences as well. People will lose benefits if Chinese people continue leaving Sihanoukville.

Re: Chinese Expatriates Were Paranoid Following the Recent Rounding Up and Started to Leave Sihnoukville
If the Chinese are leaving Sihanoukville because the cops are rounding up criminals and ne'er-do-wells that also happen to be Chinese, then there is likely more to their hasty departure than mere ethnic fidelity. I wonder if these people who are threatening to leave have their passports and work permits in order, how much they were profiting from or even working with the deported criminals, if they have all of their permits in order for the gambling operations they are setting up down there, and what else they might be involved in to make them start worrying about the police. Imagine if the barang threatened to leave en masse because the police were rounding up white pedos and thieves and others with long expired visas and no work permits. What would that say of those barang threatening to leave?
Kampot must be thrilled at the prospect of a flood of Chinese gambling dens buying up all the guesthouses and hotels.

If all these Chinese people were living and working under the radar or mounting scams in Sihanoukville previously with no hassles from the authorities, then there was probably a certain agreement in exchange for "commission" given.
Looks like the previous agreements may no longer be good with the new police chief ?
(Only guessing, but it ties in with recent changes. )

The ones in the last two photos look like they need to get back to junior high school, don't they?
