Student killed in Phnom Penh death crash was “dragged under car for 2 kilometres”

A tragic incident happened last night when a Chinese National hit 2 young students with his car, injuring one and causing the death of the other by dragging her under his car for 2 kilometres

The incident happened at 11:40 pm on May 29, 2021, at a checkpoint along Street 105 in Sangkat Phsar Doeum Thkov, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

Reports say that a Chinese national, who was driving an MG brand car, collided with 2 people riding on a Zoomer motorbike.

The MG car was apparently driving at high speeds and without due care and attention for other road users. At the crossing, it hit the motorcycle full on as the motorcycle crossed from east to west.

One of the motorbike riders was severely injured in the incident, whilst the other was dragged under the car for 2 kilometres as the car attempted to flee the scene of the accident.

Eventually, the car was brought to a halt by bystanders, who then beat the Chinese National and attacked his car until authorities arrived to marshal the situation.

It was noted by observers at the scene that the car appeared to have a “VIP 2021” badge, apparently issued by police.

The lives of two young women were destroyed in a second by an entitled arsehole. I hope the Cambodian facebook crowd will get on the case of this guy and he gets the maximum sentence. It's a shame, but that's often how justice gets done.

So fked up. :(

Quote - Tragic.
Without witnessing the cause of the accident, we can only read of the details that are written.
I don't believe in the beatings by the locals taking the law in their own hands, this should normally be looked at by an offense in it's own right. This situation surely makes the driver's of vehicles involved in any traffic accident doing a runner, even if they were not the cause.
But in this case that driver definitely was out of order to carry on driving after the first impact. After taking that action it is more likely that he caused an unnecessary death too a young person. This type of offence you can understand local people now taking the actions they did.
The question now is, will that driver be on the roads once again in the very near future.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I suppose that depends how much they beat him up and what was the damage to the car.

Otherwise "settlement in accordance with legal procedures" sounds a lot like pay up and go home :(

Sad news when you put it like that. More so, anyone has a license to kill if they can afford the cost.

How can you drag someone for 2 Kilometers before stopping?

If that is true, then Hang 'em High!

How many decades have Westerners been visiting, living and working in Cambodia?

Have any of you seen Westerners in the news like this?

Open the floodgates to the Chinese and lo and behold, nothing but criminally tragic news........almost daily.

When is enough going to be enough......Ministers, Oknya's, other assorted well-heeled Khmers?

Continue pimping out your own country ad hoc or start being more discriminating in who you do business with?
