Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Chemical weapon fallout: birth defects and local health

Post by Anchor Moy »

The positive side to the Cambodian-US spat is that, firstly the authorities are at last removing chemicals that have been sitting for decades in populated areas, affecting the locals' health. Secondly, they are also making an effort to provide the villagers with some health care, a hospital and a clinic, and they are going to monitor the health of the local population. Thirdly - and I can hardly believe this - local people are being educated to protect themselves by not approaching or touching these weapons.

Fifteen areas contaminated by chemical weapons were identified in Korki and Ampil communes, not including one that has already been cleared in Korki pagoda and school.

Deputy district governor Sour Mol said five villagers have reported skin complaints in the commune, including one child. “The people with skin complaints told us they had touched chemical substances from bombs,” Mr Mol said.
