Canadian tourist found dead in Harmony Hotel room, Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Remember that the guy only just died, and before you comment have some thought for family and friends who are finding out the bad news. He was 28 years old, thats awfully young to die. Condolences to the family.

(@SAM You don't need to be a genius to see that the passport photo is superimposed by a boarding pass photo, but maybe put your glasses on before commenting next time. )

That's a much better picture of the guy!

Sorry, Anchor, that's much clearer now.

You can call me Martin, if you please.

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.

Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

Police website also states he died from a morphine overdose.
A lot of the deaths at Harmony Hotel are from morphine overdoses.

Hard to believe the passport photo and the school photo are of the same guy.

The picture scans are so small I can't tell how old the passport is but it looks like it expires in 2020, with a 2015 issue date. It is one of the new ones, though, which had higher security standards.

I am currently a high schooler at RIS. Although I did not know Mr Dan all too well, I did personally speak to him various times last semester and can confirm that the two pictures above are both of Mr Dan. He had a great personality and had this way of lightening up the room with his sense of humor. He was also a coach of multiple sports including football and rugby. He will be sorely missed by RIS, friends and family.

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for posting. Was Dan still teaching at your school ?

Michael Phelps needs to weigh in on this ... He must be doing somersaults underwater right now ...

Those pics are light night and day.
