Canadian Man Denies Child Sex Abuse Charges in Court
Canadian man arrested in Siem Reap City in February on suspicion of having sexually abused underage boys denied the allegations during his trial on Friday at the provincial court.
Pierre Deslauriers, 70, was arrested on February 23, when police broke down the door to his rented room. Police said the man tried to kill himself upon arrest, stabbing himself in the abdomen and cutting his wrists with a pocketknife. They managed to wrest the knife away and took him to a local hospital, where he was treated.
Mr. Deslauriers was subsequently charged with abusing eight boys, all of them 14 years old or younger.
His lawyer, Ly Buntheang, said his client denied the charges at his trial on Friday and claimed that all of the boys had begged him for money. He said Mr. Deslauriers claimed he gave them each $1 but had asked two of them to clean his room first.
“Two of the boys asked him for $1 and he asked them to go to his rented room and help him clean it, and he let them play games on his computer,” he said.
He said all eight boys testified against Mr. Deslauriers on Friday.
Chea Nara, the lawyer representing the alleged victims, confirmed that Mr. Deslauriers denied the charges against him in court, but declined to discuss the case or the trial, other than to reaffirm that the boys were indeed abused by the Canadian.
“I cannot tell you about the witnesses [the boys] for their own protection,” he said.
Mr. Nara said a verdict would be announced on Friday.
After Mr. Deslauriers’ arrest in February, the Montreal-based newspaper La Presse reported he had multiple child sex convictions in Canada, and had served a five-year jail sentence for molesting two girls, aged 3 and 5.
La Presse also reported that he was a vocal defender of pedophilia and had given public speeches and written articles in favor of allowing adults to have sex with children, as well as producing.....

More about the perp's arrest in February and his previous history in Canada:
A notorious Montreal pedophile arrested in Cambodia
A Montreal notorious sexual predator who has already publicly promoting pedophilia in Canada, faces 10 years in prison in Cambodia, where he has been pinned for attacks on a dozen children.
Pierre Deslauriers, 70, a professional photographer and traveler, was indicted from his hospital bed in the tourist town of Siem Reap, near the famous Angkor Wat temples.
Montrealer has hurt himself with a pocket knife when the police came to arrest him in the shabby room he rented for $ 3 per day.
According to the Cambodia Daily newspaper, Deslauriers is locked in his room, and would cut her wrists and stomach. The police broke down the door and struggled to wrest the weapon before the arrest.
Action for Children, an NGO that collects donations throughout the world to fight against the sexual exploitation of minors, told La Presse that she was alerted last Thursday about the presence of Deslauriers in Siem Reap.
Two boys aged 10 and 12 said they had been assaulted more than once. Their parents even claimed to have witnessed the situation. On Sunday, the agency representatives spotted Deslauriers plunged into the forest with four boys aged 10 to 14 years. Called to the rescue, the police rescued miners and collected three new incriminating evidence, while Deslauriers fled to his rooming house.
Destination for child molesters
Children reported seeing four other miners mugged by Deslauriers, which theoretically would increase the number of victims at nine at the moment.
Deslauriers would give them between $ 1 and $ 5 US to push them to do sexual acts on him.
"This city is the most famous cultural city of Cambodia, but it is also a destination for child molesters to travel," lamented Moden Yi, spokesman for Action for Children.
In Canada, Pierre Deslauriers has already made a presentation pro-pedophilia at a "Symposium on sexuality" at Collège de Maisonneuve, around the year 90. He also published an article in a magazine with limited circulation to defend his position.
First sentenced for indecent exposure in 1968 and sexual assault in 1987 (he had obtained a stay of sentence), Deslauriers was then sentenced to five years in prison in 1994 for sexually molesting two girls, 3 and 5 years.
Gestures occurred in his studio in Duluth during a photo shoot. Upon his arrest, the police found him in child pornography, including some of his own.
At his trial, he told falling in love with a 6 year old girl when he was 16, then he discovered child pornography in 1977 during a trip to Europe. In court, he was engaged in a new tirade in favor of pedophilia, advancing the hypothesis that "in 200 years," the company may accept more practice.
Experts who had evaluated had told the court that he had a high risk of recurrence, since there was nothing unhealthy in his actions.

He's 70. I doubt life in prison would be that lengthy or costly. Sligo, castration sounds like cruel and unusual punishment to me. A bit of sharia law rubbing off on you?

No problem...chemical or actual castration stops them getting out of prison and re-offending , they need help to stop, this helps them stop, and is cheap.Digg3r wrote:Sorry general chatter. Mistook you for the other general.

typical cop thinking. For eons here they've put undesirables on a Greyhound for the next big city over the state line. In this case, perhaps the Cambodian system will do what the Canadians did not have the guts to do.King Keil wrote:Why do these people get a passport.
