Not long to wait and see. SR is reportedly arriving in PP tonight at 22:20 on Korean Airlines. (These details are thoughtfully provided by the PPP.)

This doesn't sound good:

If you live in PP, it might be a good idea to get a couple of cases of beer in.With Rainsy’s scheduled return, Chhay Eang said the CNRP’s 55 lawmakers had been banned from travelling outside of the capital, unless they had “urgent obligations” they had to attend to.
“All of them must stay together in Phnom Penh, first for safety [in case] a bad incident takes place, [and] second to join any urgent decision-making,” he said.

^^ Interesting comment by SR, "I absolutely must go back and go to rescue our nation. So there is no change in my plan. If I must die, let it be”

Historically Rainsy's not been too keen to risk his own safety. I don't know if martyrdom becomes more appealling as you get older but I suspect not.
I think that anyone staying in Cambodia during the electoral announcement next time round wants their head read. There is no winning situation. HE gets the majority vote again - civil war. SR gets the majority vote - civil war. The past can be put to one side now when it comes to this; most of the country is way too young to remember it and they're all pretty unhappy about what's going on. And if I were Vietnamese... I'd have left already. (Actually come to think about it, I'm not Vietnamese but I have left already... for somewhere else with a civil war brewing no less).

^^ I guess it all depends on who controls the military / to whom the military is loyal.

I have to agree there. If you have no commitments here, be prepared to move at short notice. If you have commitments or family here, be prepared to lock down and keep supplies / money stored away.TheGrinchSR wrote:Historically Rainsy's not been too keen to risk his own safety. Other than that, when things get chaotic it's always a good time pick up a bargain in the property market, so I guess I'll be hanging around.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

Minister of Interior Sar Kheng has issued a decision by creating a commission to arrest chairman of the National Rescue Party, Sam Rainsy and prevent protests against the arrest.
The flight has been announced, the arrest has been announced. Rainsy stripped of lawmaker status
Sam Rainsy is no longer a lawmaker.
The decision to strip the opposition leader of his lawmaker status and immunity followed a morning meeting of the National Assembly’s permanent committee that was boycotted by the Cambodia National Rescue Party.
“His Excellency Sam Rainsy has lost the rights, parliamentary privileges and membership as a member of the National Assembly for the Kampong Cham constituency,” Assembly president Heng Samrin said in a statement issued just before lunchtime.
