Cambodian opposition party dissolved by Supreme Court, as HE clears path to 2018 election

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I don't think anyone has made that argument in decades.

I went to the market today. Seemed like any other Sunday.
Stopped round noon at favorite watering hole. Had a beer with w/burger. Beer seemed the same. Burger was better than average. Good German mustard.
Traffic seemed a bit more than average.
Went & bought a clothes iron.
Weird!

...anyway.

I don't claim to know the details of law and facts on the ground. But it does make one think.

My thoughts are with the long-struggling Cambodian people, as always.
I love Cambodian people, most are wonderful folks.
Maybe this will affect the growth in businesses, tourism, and some or even many expats and retirees in Cambodia.

When I think of governmental systems that oppress their people, I think of my personal interactions with Russians and Chinese. Then I think of the future with respect to Cambodian interactions if living there.
Then I find myself re-thinking living there.

On what do you base that claim? BBC? CNN?

I suggest you do some investigation before you accept MSM's view.
I worked there from 2008 to 2010. Since I was teaching, I spent quite a lot of time with Libyans and they were very much controlled and oppressed, much more so than in Cambodia. I'm basing my judgement on that.

Cambo Dear wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2017 1:50 pm I wonder at which point the people revolt? They have to at some point - the only Cambodians I know that 'like' the government are those paid by them and the civil service and institutions aren't that big. I thought the people were going to follow through after the elections in 2013, but they had no fight in them. When is it going to happen???
The pain & fear from an bad era has not vanished & is still very strong, also as soon as any group gathers they are literally smashed to bits by the 'special police'...thats why you're not seeing a revolution, i see elsewhere you claim to have spent 12yrs in PP? yet you seem oblivious to the methods of the ruling party to keep people under control?

with the current upcoming elections and the recent news of the opposition be ruled out and the possibility of a people`s revolt, it maybe best if i stay somewhere near a border.it appears that americans are the least approved of foreigners by the current administration...

i doubt there will be any unrest, particularly not against foreigners unless something happens to stir things up.
the yanks are too busy fighting each other to pay much attention to what goes on here- and china is outspending them by a wide margin.

What went wrong for the opposition ? What could they, or should they, have done differently ?
This is from a month ago, but don't think it's been posted.
