Cambodian mangos to France

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodian mangos to France

Under its Philibon brand, Boyer S.A. has been importing mangos into France from Cambodia. That's in addition to the Kent mangos it brings in from Peru.

“The variety we get from Cambodia is the Keo,” explained Claire-Marie Isnard of Boyer S.A. “The name comes from the word for mango in the local language there.” Of the imported fruit, all mangos are sold under the Philibon brand, and 90 percent stays for local consumption in France.

Boyer S.A. is a French company that deals in fresh fruits and vegetables, including melons, plums, cherries, green beans, peas and exotic fruits.

Mango is svai, so any idea where this name "keo" comes from, or is it the name of a variety, a Cambodian brandname ?

^^ Is that 'keo' as in glass? Or, blue, as PSD-Kiwi mentioned?

Ok thanks, I know there are many types of mangoes, but both my missus and I had never heard of the svay keo variety.

On our property we grow svay keo chen(Chinese glass mango),which is considered one of the most delectable and svay keo l'miat(turmeric glass mango) which is considered 2nd quality but has the virtue of being the first to come to fruition and can be eaten either green or ripe. I am unaware of a blue mango

Maybe the mango for export is the svay keo chen variety, but it's been renamed Keo mango for marketing ? (Short catchy name for westerners.)
I presume they are exporting the best type of mangos. Do they look very different ? It would be handy to be able to identify which are the best sort of mangos to buy here.

Blue mango sounds like a boutique hotel.

I also suspect that Ms. Claire Marie Isnard doesn't know much Khmer.
