Re: Cambodian Ambassador to South Korean Arrested This Morning by ACU for Corruption
The trial of a disgraced former ambassador accused of using his embassy as a money-making machine will be held on November 4, according to Phnom Penh Municipal Court presiding judge Kor Vandy.
Suth Dina, the 45-year-old former ambassador to South Korea, was charged with “abuse of power” under article 35 of the Anti-Corruption Law and “unlawful exploitation” under articles 597 and 598 of the Criminal Code.
He was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) on April 4 after police found him with $7.2 million in cash – $4 million more than he had when he left Cambodia – as well as 12.7 kilograms of gold and 500 valuable gems, all of which they believe was acquired since he became Cambodia’s ambassador to South Korea in 2014...

Re: Cambodian Ambassador to South Korean Arrested This Morning by ACU for Corruption
As his trial began on Friday, Suth Dina, Cambodia’s disgraced former ambassador to South Korea, scattered the blame for his alleged misdeeds on his predecessor, government ministries and his four accusers at the embassy...
Since Mr. Dina’s arrest in April, the Anti-Corruption Unit has publicly accused him of extensive graft, including taking kickbacks from migrant workers, pocketing fees paid for visas and failing to pay rent on the embassy in Seoul. The unit also raised suspicions over his ballooning personal wealth, which it says increased by as much as $3 million during his three-year tenure in South Korea.
His trial on Friday, however, boiled down to $116,995 in embassy revenue that he had failed to transfer on time to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, an allegation that led to charges of abuse of power and unlawful exploitation. Both charges carry a sentence of two to five years in prison and a fine of 4 million to 10 million riel, or about $1,000 to $2,500...

Shamed Ambassador Found Guilty, Insists on Innocence
Cambodia’s disgraced former ambassador to South Korea, Suth Dina, continued to protest his innocence on Thursday while being led away from a Phnom Penh courtroom after receiving a five-year prison sentence for abusing his power and exploiting his position.
He eventually joined the ruling CPP in 2009 and was an undersecretary of state at the Foreign Affairs Ministry before being appointed as the government’s envoy to South Korea.

Worth noting that a member of the party in power has been jailed for corruption.

"Worth noting that a member of the party in power has been jailed for corruption."
That only happens when your actions cause a loss of face to the powers that be. Considering how consistently shameless they are, you really have to fuck up big time. Since S. Korea is a major foreign aid player, his obvious pilfering caused his downfall.

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Supreme Court Hears the case of Ex-ambassador
7 March 2018
The Supreme Court today heard the case of Cambodia’s disgraced former ambassador to South Korea, Suth Dina, as whether his appeal hearing over his abuse of power and exploiting his position would be allowed to proceed.
In December 2016, the Phnom Penh Municipal court found Mr Dina guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison on charges of abuse of power and unlawful exploitation and fined him 10 million riel, or about $2,500.
After being sentenced, Mr Dina was dissatisfied with the decision and appealed it through his three lawyers, but the court of appeal refused to have a hearing on January 13, 2017 given that Mr Dina failed to transfer his rights in written papers with his signature to his three lawyers.

8 March 2018
Update: Kim Sathavy, Supreme Court presiding judge, said the Appeal Court had followed proper procedures and noted that the judges would further discuss the case and issue a verdict on March 14.
