Cambodia World N° 1 for Rabies' Deaths.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The 'I don't give a fuck owners' fail to realize when the dogs are on heat to keep them indoors. That's barang owners also, who should know better! The noise from roaming dogs up to their tricks at night is getting unbearable but some could sleep through the next world war so they never hear anything. I'm sure one near has rabies but nothing will be done until someone important is bitten!
^Very true. According to Moody Mac on TOF a while ago. If a dog bites a Khmer the owner is harangued by the local community into paying $50 for rabies shots. Barang I knew in SNV whose dog bit a Khmer were asked to pay from $100 up. In the end the dog gets put down by its owners if it is a biter, when it gets too expensive. Apparently it is frowned upon to kill someone else dog, even if it has bitten a few people and is allowed to harass you every time you walk past. Throwing stones is OK though. But, you can get a bigger, nastier dog to kill it! That's apparently OK. A barang owner that had a dog that bit 3 Khmer on separate occasions, was told it would be put down next time.

Rabid dogs are not an uncommon occurrence in our village. Nobody hesitates to kill them. Sometimes the poorer families will drag them home and cook them.
