Cambodia's Impossible Dream: Koh Tral

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Having a rollicking good time on Khmerization. My favorite so far :

"Jeff, the only substance in your article is that you are a shameless LIAR and a defender of Vietnamese criminals. You are not a civilized person with rules and code of conduct. You are a brute and a bully who use English skills to mock and make fun of Cambodians and to encourage to steal more land from the remaining Cambodian territory. Your action/writing energizes the Vietnamese to keep on stealing more of the Khmer territory because you will continue to defend their immoral acts. You trade your good sense and humanity for the Vietnamese barbecued dog meat, and MSG infested Pho noodles, and Vietnamese spring rolls stuff with earthworms, and stinky fish sauce to enhance your already rotten mouth."

A Khmer (overseas no doubt) ragging on MSG and fish sauce. Now that's a hoot.

Great comment! It made me laugh, I mean you just don't make up shit like that. Sounds like a really frustrated person. You are 'a brute and a bully', !

That Mengly guy is certainly interesting... But at least he's civil. The Khmerization posts are a bit boring. Every user is "Anonymous" and most seem to be overseas Khmers (typical) with deep-seated anger issues.

The way I see it, it really doesn't matter what the outcome is. Vietnam will never relinquish the island at this point. Sure, the Vietnamese expanded southwards, but it's Cambodian's own fault for being weak at the time, not the other way around. Fast-forward and we're n a day ad age were borders are cementing themselves more than ever, so they should just give up any sovereignty claims. Almost every single country in the world has seen its borders change in the past two hundred years, but not much has changed significantly in the past few decades. Even if Koh Tral was declared Cambodian, I highly doubt the Vietnamese would just pack up and leave. I also doubt the international community would feel it was important enough to put a lot of sanctions to coerce Vietnam into relinquishing the island. So it's really just annoying to hear about it being used for propaganda and nationalist reasons.

I would never get involved with Khmerization again. None of these people have the slightest interest in the facts, in doing their own research, in having an informed opinion. 82 comments as of last night and not one directly addressed the points raised in my article which most clearly did not even read. What a waste.

And doing a good job.

One dick on Khmerization has gone so far as to post a photo purported to be me (it's not) I've requested the site owner nip this shit in the bud. He previously told me he's too busy to moderate. If he doesn't I'll do my best to ensure there are consequences.

How is everyone viewing Khmerization? I'm on Metfone and can't get to it and Hide My Ass gives me this message: Sorry, this proxy does not allow the requested site (khmerization.blogspot.com) to be viewed.

I'm dying to read all of the comments there.

ps. Great article, really well-researched. I'm interested if Cambodia has any sort of legal claim but I agree, it doesn't really matter if they do.

Digi blocks it, OpenNet does not, nor does cell card.

On your phone modify your wifi network advanced settings to use static DNS with Google servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
