Cambodia has agreed to a deal to take asylum seekers

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It's the SALES : $40m for 1000 refugees. Can't beat that.
Yep, with more money to come - it's a win-win, Cambodia's elite win 40m now and win more later.

I'd just like to congratulate the Australian and Cambodian govts on their efforts to make this world a better place. Thanks guys. :OD:

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told journalists earlier this month that these deals would benefit everyone. "We are world renowned for what we do on refugee resettlement, so who better is placed than Australia to work with a country such as Cambodia to help them develop that capability to do the job as well?" he asked.
Indeed, Mr. Morrison is correct; Australia is renowned for " what [they] we do on refugee resettlement":
To deter asylum seekers, Australia in 2012 reopened infamous offshore detention centers on Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manus Island, where more than two thousand people, mostly from South Asia and the Middle East, are currently detained in unsanitary and confining living conditions. As of May, the average detention time for asylum seekers was 275 days.
And Mr Morrison is not too proud to give praise where praise is due:

Mr Morrison said the Cambodian government was "making countless efforts to develop the country" and was "demonstrating its ability and willingness to contribute positively to this humanitarian issue".
It's just beautiful. Perhaps a joint nomination for the Nobel Peace prize is in order ? :hattip:
