4 buses explode at Angkor Wat
Re: 4 buses explode at Angkor Wat
Well, the news articles clearly states that we're not allowed to speculate or we will face the law.SiemReapLOL wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 9:51 am Now the competent authorities are saying it was a fire in the engine.
However looking at the photos it appears more like an explosion in the luggage compartment.
I don’t see much (if any) fire damage. And what kind of fire doesn’t burn the seats but can be heard from 5 kilometers away?
But who am I to doubt the competent Khmer authorities?
So at least we can be sure that they're not hiding something.

Re: 4 buses explode at Angkor Wat
It appears the competent authorities have killed the story on this. Simple fire (that blew out the windows on 4 buses and was heard 5 kilometers away, and left no visible fire damage). Nothing to see here, move along. I wonder if we will ever get any more of the story here.
Also I wonder what is nationality of the tourists on those buses. Can’t seem to find any of the TikTok’s or social media posts someone would expect to find when 200 or so tourists have their tour buses explode. Maybe Chinese tourists, so nothing on the English language internet?

No updates on the people injured in the incident or any further explanation other than saying technical issues generally. Chinese tourists are up in Siem Reap, as touts the Khmer times. After that scary movie that drove Chinese tourists away, anything interfering with this reinvigorated revenue stream gets buried.

A driver I spoke with yesterday said they were LPG buses that overheated while parked. I didn't know that was possible.

Said no-one ever. At least we don't hand out 50 year sentences for being critical about the monarchy.

I know, you'd never mention Thailand in a Cambodia thread.

I wondered if it was LPG related, but didn’t know if there were busses running on LPG. They must be slow old beasts.Soyoung123 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 5:10 pm A driver I spoke with yesterday said they were LPG buses that overheated while parked. I didn't know that was possible.

Re: 4 buses explode at Angkor Wat
This would make a lot of sense - especially looking at the damage it would appear to be consistent with an accumulation of gas in a confined space which then ignitedSoyoung123 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 5:10 pm A driver I spoke with yesterday said they were LPG buses that overheated while parked. I'd venture it's also possible that there were cooking/camping gas canisters on board which could equally be a source of fumes to explode
EDIT: After some research; the bus on the right is a Diesel powered Hyundai Universe
But the one on the left looks just like Hyundai Motor FCEV - which released a year or two back. . . .and are the world's first hydrogen-powered vans and express buses...
I'm not saying it IS a hydrogen powered bus that blew up as I don't think there's any infrastructure here to fuel such vehicles - but it sure looks like one of them
