Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Brutal Double Child Murder and Rape in Sihanoukville

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Sihanoukville, Cambodia News: A disturbing report came in on the evening of 29 May 2019, that two children had been attacked and killed while they were home alone in Korki village, Prey Nup district, Sihanoukville. While the parents were out, an intruder entered their house, where he murdered a 2-year-old boy, and attacked and raped his 10-year-old sister. The girl was still alive when the children were found, and she was sent to emergency care in Phnom Penh, but she died a few hours later.
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) is working on the case. Here is their latest update:
Child Protection Unit is with McCabe's Cambodia.

“One of the most brutal homicides we have had to investigate”

The CPU in conjunction with Sihanoukville Police Command and the Ministry of Interior continue to conduct investigations and gather evidence in relation to the horrific double homicide of a 2 year old boy and the rape and homicide of his 10year old sister in Sihanoukville on the 29th of May 2019.

Investigators, Crime Scene Examiner’s and the CPU Forensic Pathologist remain at the scene in Kor Ki Comune, Prey Nob District, Sihanoukville. The bloodied bodies of both victims were discovered inside their home at about 3.15pm on the 30th of May 2019 after their father had left them only a short time prior to their discovery. The 10yr old female was in a critical condition and rushed to Sihanoukville hospital where the CPU arranged a medical evacuation shortly after. Unfortunately she died of her horrific injuries a few hours after.

“The brutality of this furious attack is beyond words and has shocked some of the [most] seasoned homicide investigators”

Every possible resource is being used to identify the individual responsible for this crime. Be under no misapprehension we will use every possible resource available to us to find you and bring you to justice.

It is incomprehensible the level of violence used on these two innocent children. May you both rest in peace with the promise Task Force members will not rest until we have made an arrest and prosecuted the individual responsible for this horrific crime.

Jesus!!!! Rest in peace little ones. And there should be no recourse to the law for the perp. I do not normally condone vigilante justice, but every once in a while someone so evil comes along that this is the only resort.

It'll be interesting to hear how well connected the perp is. Hopefully nowhere near the same as the Range Rover girl.

God has given us fire ants, chain saws, citrus juice, rope, and baseball bats... why not use them now?

How appalling. I would bet that the accused, Chhim Vichet, is someone known to the family or a neighbor. Pure evil.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Now that they've issued the name and photo of the suspect, surely it's just a matter of time before this evil c**t is caught. I don't believe in capital punishment, simply because I genuinely believe it's too good for some people. Its almost as if by killing him, you're letting him off the hook. This man (assuming he is the perpetrator of course) deserves to be made to suffer for every single day of the rest of his natural life.

I can't help but wonder how socially acceptable it is in Cambodia to leave a 2yo and 10yo child home alone in the first place though.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.

Most of the time these sort of horrors are linked to someone who knew the family and the victims. I hate to "guess" about a motive for this massacre, but too often it is a story of revenge for perceived slights by the victims' family toward the suspect. The children are just pawns in a sick idea of revenge on the family by someone who feels they have lost face.

Whatever the reason behind this event, it is tragic, but it doesn't give license to judge Cambodians, any more than crimes against children in the UK or Australia or the US mean that the whole of western society is sick. There is evil everywhere.

Sure - it's ubiquitous but I've never been a believer in the "Gentle Land" myth either. I find most people here to be very gentle and pleasant to deal with but when people do get angry here things can get a bit messy. 8-)

A Head for an Eye by Alex Hinton is an interesting read on the topic, you should be able to find a PDF of it online.

From Alex H's testimony at the KR trials. ' Very pertinent here;

“Nuon Chea is not a monster. He’s a human being, and it’s important to recognize him as such because writing him off as a sociopath and leaving it at that doesn’t tell us much about why he did what he did, and leaves us with very little insight,” says Hinton. “Seeing him as a person, on the other hand, gets us into other important dimensions of humanity."

Labelling such people as "evil" is easy, and usually wrong
Seeing the potential for evil in all of us would go a lot further in gaining real understanding of why rape, murder and genocide etc, endlessly reoccur.

:thumb: Thanks. I've read it and it was an "eye" opener for me. Seriously, I think that Hinton's work really helped me to gain insight into dealing with Khmer family and fellow workers. I'll post the pdf if I can find it because I really think it's worth the read. And I'll read it again.
