I wouldn't rule out the father's involvement. Not saying he is involved, but in America it would absolutely be considered and investigated. Maybe he received some benefit from the perp to leave them alone. It wouldn't be the first time it happened.

Police hunt suspect in brutal child homicides
Sihanoukville police are on the hunt to arrest a killer suspected of raping and murdering two children in Prey Nop district’s Bit Traing commune on Wednesday.

Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin yesterday identified the suspect as 30-year-old Chhim Vichet.
He noted that his officers are cooperating with National Police officers and Child Protection Unit experts to find the suspect who raped and killed the two victims.

“Police and a group of experts are currently working to find a suspect who murdered the two children,” Maj Gen Narin said.
He added that police also provided money to the victims’ family for a funeral.

The victims were identified as 10-year-old Pha Srey Leak and her two-year-old brother Pha Sok Ly.

The bloodied bodies of both victims were discovered inside their home at about 3.15 pm on Wednesday after their father had left them only a short time prior, CPU said.

It added that the 10 year-old-female victim was in critical condition and rushed to Sihanoukville hospital, where the CPU arranged a medical evacuation shortly after. CPU noted that she died of her injuries a few hours later.

Oun Pha, the father of the victims, said that he works in construction and that his family is poor. They had come from their hometown in Tboung Khmum province and planned to stay in Prey Nop district for about a week.

Mr Pha said that on the day of the incident, he and his wife were not home.

“I left for work at a construction site and my wife left for work as a waitress at a restaurant,” Mr Pha said. “We told them to stay home. When I came back from work, I saw them laying down with so much blood.”

“I panicked when I saw them,” he added. “I appeal to the police and authorities to find justice for my daughter and my son by finding the suspect.”

Many years ago I upset one of my employees in Thailand. To me it was nothing of real importance, but he must have taken it as an insult or something. He bided his time and then I ended up in hospital, I was lucky.
I learnt a lesson then to always tread carefully with S.E Asians, theres a lot hidden behind their smile.

A short time ago I was reading a media report about what was done to the capture of a rapist/murderer. From memory I think the country was Nigeria.
They took the guy to a large open space and with crowds of onlookers milling around beat the shit out of him. Then they beheaded and crucified him and left him up there as a warning to others. Stuff Human Rights, there is none for the victims.
May the little ones be with God and the guilty go to Hell.

He got into his little feelings and hasn't spoken to me ever since. I caught him going through my computer deleting some of my work. The fucker would always give me a bright smile every morning (and that's after I called him out on his incapacity to provide quality work). Talking about a genuine smile... foh

Well. He got fired and been replaced by an American/ Khmer dude that can actually get the work done. No backstabbing so far. No phony behavior.

My feelings are intact. I now know that the genuine smile you're speaking of is often times fake.
