British Nick Laycock Arrested For Rape of Tourist in Kampot

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Update from the Kampot Noticeboard Facebook Group:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... urist.html

Word on the street is Good News!!! - All charges were thrown out of court today and the accused Nick was released.. What could have been a horror story for this poor lad has at least ended with positive news after the Arcadia crew stood strong and presented video evidence and the girls retracted their statements after they had seen the video evidence of her falling down stairs and also leading the accused off for a "bit of fun"... Shame on the British Embassy for their lack of support and huge respect to the Arcadia crew for their determined efforts not see a serious injustice done. Much respect to them and to Nick for what he has had to suffer for the last few days. - ALSO SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO JUMPED TO THE WRONG CONCLUSION B4 KNOWING ALL THE FACTS - utter scum - you know who you are..

...the girl was concussed after falling down stairs as is shown in the video - ALL injuries was from the fall.. thats why SHE retracted her statement upon being aware of what actually happen.. she gave her statement whilst concussed and whilst she was unsure of what actually happen...LUCKILY CCTV PROVED what happened... My only interest in this is that it doesn't happened to offer INNOCENT people..

Jamie_Lambo wrote:me, its highly likely that the vast majority of times i have sex with a new conquest that theres a good chance im intoxicated, and more often than not so is the other party, is this rape, no, if they were unconscious or close to it then yes, drunk, then no, if they were drunk and consented then after regretted it and think they would never have done it sober, is this rape, no, its her own fault for getting that drunk, theres a difference between rape and regret, even if youve been so drunk that you cant remember if you had sex or not***, thats not rape, someone forcing someone to have sex is rape, no ones forcing you to drink yourself into a state where you dont know what youre doing (unless spiked drinks are involved then thats different)

***[edit] im talking about if 2 people are out drinking together or met in a club or something, not some guy going round hunting down drunk women on their way home from a night out, as it sounds depending how you read it lol just thought id point that out
Well said :thumb:

Mmm...I think I would try and err on the side of caution if a woman were that drunk.

Many courts would not agree with your interpretation, Jamie.

Never trusted beer goggles for either party, myself.

I would avoid women who get drunk, have sex and then shout rape like the plague, not my kind of people.

Having said that, I would also avoid people like the barman's friends, anyone stupid enough to accuse the investigating officers of being corrupt on a public facebook page, and the resort.

imo, it's a miracle they didn't get shut down/taken over, but I'm also sure that no lesson has been learned from this and we will probably see more news from this place in the coming months.

Maybe they should re-brand/change their name...'Amnesia' ?
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right? ;)

How much did it cost Arcadia for the girl to change her story?
