British and German Men Arrested for Expired Visas, Koh Rong

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Oh thanks! I will ask you for some advice before I go there.

Well, this two guys didn't do any harm to anyone. Of course it's there own fault in the end, but they haven't been dangerous to anyone on Koh Rong. The slim guy was actually teaching yoga at long beach and giving massages, don't know what the other one did lately.

Of course it's positive that the police is finally showing themselves at Koh Rong. But especially at Long Beach it scares the shit out of many customers, seeing 20 policemen with AK47 staring grimmly at them and walking around like there's going to be a war. So it also has a downside for the business there.

It's great to see all these foreigners getting deported for overstaying their visas lately, because these are the people who are gonna eventually f**k up the ease of getting them. There really is no excuse for overstaying your visa, they are extremely cheap and easy to extend, if people cannot afford to or are too irresponsible to remember to renew their visa then good riddance I say...laters!

It doesn't make any differences even though they both are good people. They didn't caused any problems to people surrounding, however they were doing something against Cambodia's law. I guess if they were in Thailand or Vietnam, they would face the same fate.

I just wanted to say, that these two guys are not violent and haven't been causing any problems regarding this.

As I said: It's completely there own fault. Wasn't about to defend them in some way. Personally, I couldn't care less if they're deported now or end up in prison until the money part is sorted out, as none of them is my friend or whatever. Just saw them there couple of times, spoke to them and that's it.

I agree completely. I'm sure anyone with access to resources (steady income, bank account, etc) isn't getting kicked out over an accidental overstay. rather, it seems to be focused on the people who can't afford to renew them. I'm not going to judge them, but the bottom line is you're almost always better off broke in your own country than broke in Cambodia. There's no state apparatus to help you out of poverty here, so what is the eventual path forward for these guys? Crime is the only answer. Better to avoid that outcome and to get them the help they need. Win-win, I say.

They are lucky that can stay in Cambodia via buying visa, but I think Cambodians are difficult when we apply visa to your country.

Slightly off topic, but I heard a sneaky rumour that overstay fines have gone up to $10 per day now. I've only heard it from one source so hopefully not true and just some scare-mongering.
