Brit Matthew Paul King Arrested Over Ordeal at Guesthouse in Kampot; Commits Suicide in Immigration Detention

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The British Embassy don't give a fuck about any of that people business.

Not correct. As I said a position was advertused last year. Among the responsibilities were speaking with family members in situations like this, dealing with British in the country who have had bad experiences, etc.

Not to come off a bit racist but I'm not sure a local person would be culturally compatible with this sort of position, it would really need to be someone British. When I've been to the embassy the entire staff seems to be Cambodian and I found it a tad exasperating just getting paperwork sorted. I'm pretty sure they would hasten the end of anyone in real difficulty.

That is just your standard consular position I would think Violet not a social worker, every embassy has them. In a normal country part of that remit would help assist putting people in touch with social services, appropriate mental health services etc....but well we are where we are and as discussed hundreds of time there is very limited (i.e.none) mental health services available here for anyone never mind foreigners.

Agreed. It definitely wasn't a social welfare or counsellor role.

was it this one? its a consular role recently advertised (in the last year) that seems to fit what you describe - https://fco.tal.net/vx/mobile-0/appcent ... B3-L/en-GB
