Bus company shut in Battambang, Pailin after driver tests positive for Covid

Battambang and Pailin provincial authorities decided to temporarily close branches of the transport company Virak Buntham Express after a driver tested positive for Covid-19.

In a notice on May 2, Battambang provincial governor Nguon Ratanak decided to shut down three of the company’s branches in Ou Da Leu village of Kamrieng district’s Boeung Raing commune; Phnum Touch village of Phnom Proek district’s Pichr Chenda commune; and Trapeang pralit village in Sampov Loun district’s Santepheap commune.

“The temporary shutdown of these businesses is to prevent the spread of the virus after a driver tested positive on May 2,” said the notice.

He ordered that during the shutdown the branches be cordoned off and the company’s services be suspended. Authorities are tracing people who had direct and indirect contact with the driver so they can be quarantined and tested for the virus.
He also requested passengers who had contact with the driver to to come forward immediately.

Food is there of course, although not spoiled for selection due to the outbreak at the market. It can sometimes feel like you're abandoned out here, and price-gouging is fucking rampant. Never have I seen a richer little community in this country, this place has been a cash cow and yet many are not exactly helping each other out when times are tough. Costing me an arm and a leg. And I'm not going to get into all the issues with local authorities publicly due to my conspicuous location, but for me that's the biggest thing. I'll say that we have not been properly informed of the situation regarding covid on the island, and no one here is happy. Have met many great people, and still don't regret my decision, but it's been a little too ropey lately, and we all just wanna go home. If something does not give on the 6th I will be mobilizing people to get together and make our location and situation known on social media, and to our embassies. It's absolute rubbish that we have not been allowed off the island at all when there has been no cases here, even though we have suggested many other ways to bypass the red zone in Sihanoukville. Often it is very difficult to get any concrete information or get in touch with anyone who knows anything, and when you do of course, you get contradictory stories. It's quite an absurd little paradisaical hell on earth. Right now we are just trying to figure out who the hell exactly is keeping us here against our will. Most places on the island have cut staff salary 100% so all the locals are in the same boat, just want out.

Thanks for the advisement, yea i can see the covid #s keep rising despite the lockdown which would not bode well for my visit timeframe if i get stuck out there for months longer.

Dont want to sound like an a**hole but the writings been on the wall for a long time that its probs time to get off the island and now you're looking for help from foreign embassies

That island has so many full of sh** hippies on it (very similar to Goa IMO)

I've been very happy here up until the last week, thank you very much, and I haven't been associating with a single hippy. I think I've stuck it out well. I just want at least information from the authorities. And a drink.
