Boy Seriously Ill with Rabies After Dog Bite

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Banteay Meanchey): On October 2, a boy who has a severe rabies infection was sent to Cambodia Japan hospital after getting bitten by a dog on September 11, 2020.

The victim was bitten by a dog 20 days ago, and he was sent for treatment to Cambodia Japan Friendship hospital. The child was then sent to Battambang Provincial Hospital for further treatment, but he may not be able to be cured because the dog venom has reached a critical level according to the medical team.

The director of the provincial health department called on people who have dogs to get them vaccinated and keep them tied up properly. In the event of being bitten by a dog or cat, you need to get a consultation and be treated in time.

Poor boy.

Thorough wound cleaning and a few shots could have prevented this.

I'm not sure why this particular case made the news, this country has some of the worst rabies infection rates in the world as far as I know.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Truly heart rending, along with the mosquito vectored diseases. It does not cost a lot of money to stop this.
Government enforced mandates are the only way.

Out in the province, I’ve yet to see a dog tied up. Vaccinations? Spaying? Deworming? Villagers are confused when I asked about this.

Maybe the cows are treated better.

Definitely not the average Khmer dog. Khmer dogs are treated as roaming trash cans, doorbells, and puppy mills.

If you have a dog or a cat in Cambodia then they should be vaccinated against rabies. Sometimes you can get free vaccinations from NGOs for your pets, so go do that when it's available, and encourage your Khmer neighbors to do the same.
