Story has made it to the Phnom Penh Post:

Body of foreigner found in suitcase

The unidentified body of a male foreign national, stuffed into a suitcase with only the head sticking out, was found by local fishermen in Kep province yesterday morning after washing up on the side of a canal near a mangrove forest.

Provincial police said that the victim, estimated to be at least 40 years old, died from blunt force trauma after being beaten with a hard object such as a metal tool. The victim had broken bones in his jaw and torso, scratches on his face and extensive bruising.

Now in the Cambodia Daily:

“The man had been hit on his jaw, and the jaw was broken, and the upper head was even more badly injured. I guess that the man was attacked with an ax or a square [sided] metal rod. The rest of the body was fine. It was just the head.”

Commune police chief Soum Sophat said the man’s arm had also been injured, and that police at the scene concluded that the murder was premeditated.

I wonder in what way his arm was injured. Somebody on the other board noted the injured arm in the photo and asked if a tattooo had been cut off. If so, that would say a lot.

They say he had no ID, that they don't know of any missing foreigners, but they know he is a "European National"

And they buried him.

Never fear, justice will be served :thumb:

Hard to tell. Would definitely say a lot if so. Looks like cutting off a tattoo would have been much messier.

And I still think he was killed in his sleep, hence the earplugs. Local police seem to think they were inserted to stop the bleeding, but who knows.

Odd that he hasn't been identified yet.

Yeah, it would be messier. To engage in a little more pure speculation...maybe burned off.

That seems more likely.
