Re: Belgian Fugitive & Expat TANGUY TALLER Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking in Cambodia
UPDATE
Translated.
Tanguy (41) has been in Cambodian cell for three years after false statements: "I hope to be home by the birthday of my son (3)"
16 Nov 2021
Bruges: A 41-year-old resident of Bruges has been held in a Cambodian prison for three years. Tanguy Taller is said to have been wrongly designated by another Bruges resident, David Catry, as the principal for the smuggling. The latter admits that. Still, Taller, who has a three-year-old son, has yet to remain in prison. "He's trying to stay strong, but it's mentally difficult," said family and friends.
Tanguy Taller has been in jail for three years now. The reason? The statements of David Catry, another Bruggeling living in Cambodia. He designated Tanguy Taller as his client when he was caught with a kilo of cocaine in January 2018 at Phnom Penh airport in Cambodia. The drugs were hidden in a false bottom of a suitcase. Initially, Catry stated that he "bought the suitcase that way", but eventually he confessed. In those statements, he subsequently designated Tanguy Taller as the principal for the smuggling. "Tanguy promised me $30,000 if I would do the smuggling and also arranged the flights," it said.
In the end, it took ten months before the local authorities were able to arrest Tanguy Taller. "Because he didn't know he was being signaled as a fugitive," his friends and family now say. He himself proclaimed his innocence. “When I checked in at the Cambodian-Vietnamese international checkpoint, an immigration police officer detained me and accused me of being a drug trafficker. I was surprised," Tanguy said during his interrogation. According to him, he knew David Catry only vaguely. He is said to have been a customer several times at Catry's food truck, but he didn't know [anything] about drug smuggling .

Re: Belgian Fugitive & Expat TANGUY TALLER Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking in Cambodia
UPDATE
April 1, 2022
Appeal Court upholds Belgian’s life sentence
Phnom Penh Appeal Court yesterday once again upheld the lower court’s decision to sentence a Belgian man to life in prison for transporting more than one kilogramme of cocaine from Brazil to Cambodia in 2018.
The Supreme Court had referred the case to be retried at the Appeal Court.
Presiding Judge Sin Visal identified the accused as Tanguy Eddie J. Taller, 37, a freelance graphics designer.
Judge Visal said that Tanguy was sentenced on December 18, 2018 by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to a life term in prison. He was charged with “drug transport and trafficking” under Article 40 of the Cambodian Law on Drug Control.
He noted that on November 7 last year, the Supreme Court heard Tanguy’s appeal and transferred it to the Phnom Penh Appeal Court for retrial because there were gaps and some contradictory evidence in this case that were not examined and considered by the lower court.
He added that Phnom Penh Appeal Court conducted Tanguy’s retrial in accordance with with the Supreme Court’s order.
Judge Visal recommended that Tanguy appeal the verdict of Phnom Penh Appeal Court to the Supreme Court within a month if he did not agree with it.
During his appeal hearing on March 17, Tanguy denied his allegations, saying that he was not a drug trafficker.
He told the court that before his arrest, he was a freelance graphics designer and came to Cambodia as a tourist in 2012.
Tanguy said that while staying in Phnom Penh, he ran his own business as a freelance graphics designer and has never been involved with drug trafficking.

Re: Belgian Fugitive & Expat TANGUY TALLER Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking in Cambodia
“Although the accused has denied the allegation and said that he was not involved, he did not prove to the court that he’s innocent,”
Wow Based on this precedent they could take out the whole triad monopoly!

Re: Belgian Fugitive & Expat TANGUY TALLER Arrested for Cocaine Trafficking in Cambodia
This quote was from the first 'retrial' in 2018. It's a stark warning; if you are accused and it goes to trial, the onus is as much on you to prove your innocence as it is on the prosecution to prove your guilt, perhaps even more so.
It is far more difficult to prove a negative than a positive, especially when you are up against their system.
As to the facts of the case: Both convicts are from Bruges. Both were in Brazil. They pair admit to meeting in Brazil. So far, so bad.
Catry allegedly named him during his confession, but described him as a Brazilian names Tang Guise, not a Belgian from the same city as he was from. Surely this would be an impossible mistake to make. The is nothing more in the reporting about a positive and accurate description of "Tang Guise", maybe he did describe him in detail and nailed it. It's a shame to quality of reporting is so poor here.

The only thing that daft statement sounds like is an admission of guilt.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 11:33 pm
UPDATE: THE OWNER OF HANGAR 44 REACHED OUT TO CEO TO SAY THIS:
"Hi, I’d like to reach out to you regarding some false information on one of your posts. It’s referring to the Belgian man who was recently arrested for trafficking of cocaine. There’s a post from you guys or someone commenting that he worked at Hangar 44 in PP. I am the operator and co-owner of Hangar 44. And he has never ever been employed anywhere in the Bassac Lane nor Hangar 44. And I would like to make that clear..."
Oohh people at a nightclub take cocaine. Shock ! Horror ! Scandal !
If he worked for UNICEF fine.
But a nightclub owner?
Nobody Gives A Fuck.

I don’t personally know Taller’s brother but what a cringe having to be related to him and not be thought of in the same breath. We can’t choose our family.
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

How can the owner of Hanger 44 claim to have knowledge of the entire employment history of every business in Bassac Lane? Furthermore, if Taller didn't work at Hanger 44, how can he claim to have knowledge of anywhere else he worked unless he knew him very well indeed?
Re: Belgian Expat, TANGUY TALLER, Arrested for Cocaine Traffic
About 4 tiny bars made up 'bassac lane' there at the time of the arrest. It would not have been hard for an owner of one of them to know who works there. Especially given the joint ownership model of the lane.Doc67 wrote:Khmu Nation wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 10:32 amThe only thing that daft statement sounds like is an admission of guilt.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Fri Oct 05, 2018 11:33 pm

Belgian Media reporting that David Catry has died in prison. Suffering a heavy astma attack. They tried to bring him to the hospital but it was too late.
