Russian Men Who Broke ABA Bank ATM Summoned to Court

Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: Two Russian male nationals, ALEXANDER ZAMETNYA , 31, and IVAN TELENKOV, 30, were summoned to court on August 13 on charges of stealing from the ABA bank ATM, under articles no. 353 and 357 of the penal code, and also with illegal drug use under article no.45 of drug control in Cambodia.

At the hearing, both Russians denied all charges of theft and drug use. The court prosecutor said that the men had been using cloned bank cards to steal money from different ATMs in Phnom Penh, but this time they were taking so much time at the machine that the guard became suspicious and called police. After their arrest, as evidence, police seized $1,000 in stolen cash, several cloned ATM cards, two mobile phones and a laptop. Both men tested positive for drug use.


The hearing was finalized and the verdict will be announced on August 27. The men face penalties of up to five years in jail if found guilty.

Alexandar Zametnaya, 31, and Ivan Telenkov, 30, who were convicted of drug use and theft with aggravating circumstances. “The court decided to sentence them to six years in jail each,” the judge said. “The court also ordered that they be expelled from Cambodia after they serve their sentences.”
