Belarusian with Ridiculous Hairstyle Arrested

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

His mom called him from Belarus and said, Listen up Son, you're a disgrace to the family... so he got his hair fixed. :hattip:

Looking down below, it looks like that wire still has the coating on it. I have no clue how they would use that. I've seen other card readers before and they don't look like what they have.

The thing they have is obviously not designed to be resident in the machine, what with the massive power supply and tape. This device looks designed to attack the ATM and force it to issue cash. I know that the ABA cash machines here in SHV are Windows XP as I've seen them crash, but this looks like it's designed for a physical exploit rather than software. Pity there's not a more detailed picture
An ATM near me had a "Press CONTROL + ALT + DELETE to continue" message on its screen recently. With a Windows 7 logo beneath. Seems crazy to use Windows on an ATM and not purpose-specific software.

Now two Russians, Alexander Zametnya, 30, and Ivan Telenkov, 29, have been arrested trying to rob the same ABA ATM on st.240.

That’s surprising. They must have updated it to windows 7. All ATMs run Windows (as far as I know) and even more shocking is most of them, even in the West, believe it or not, run on windows XP.

Not one of you has given thought to the poor victim in this story. The same ATM violated twice by these eastern european ne’er-do-wells.

I guess the nearby security guards were asleep.

Two on trial for failed ATM heist
6 April 2018
Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday tried two Belarus nationals over an attempted ATM heist in Daun Penh district in November.
Presiding Judge Seng Leang identified the men as Maksim Molocnkov, 30, and Alexander Bubenko, 39, both of whom face charges of theft and breaking and entering, and face three to ten years in prison if convicted.

Judge Leang said the two men, who wore caps and balaclavas, broke into an ABA ATM in Chey Chumneas commune in the early hours of November 27 last year and attempted to steal money from the cash dispenser.

Mr Molocnkov broke into the ATM and attempted to reach the cash while Mr Bubenko was outside as a lookout for police or security guards, Judge Leang said.

“Security guards who were monitoring CCTV feeds saw Mr Molocnkov trying to break into the ATM,” Judge Leang said. “They proceeded to apprehend the men and hand them over to local police.”

Police confiscated about $20 from the men, as well as fake ATM cards.

Both men denied the allegations during their trial yesterday, stating that they were arrested while attempting to withdraw money from the ATM and that he incident was just a simple misunderstanding. They claimed that they were intoxicated and were trying to withdraw cash from a malfunctioning ATM.
